The passports and official documents have always had Türkiye the same way German passports have always said Deutschland. It's a bit like if the US went around insisting it was wrong for Spanish speaking countries to call us Estados Unidos He made a big deal about demanding the UN change the name on the roster or whatever and the UN was just like "Yeah sure you can have whatever you want for your country on the board bro."

I bet the difference for me is that 2016 is while I was working for google maps and probably just personally paying more attention to the names of places than normal. I bet most people still say Czech Republic. even Wikipedia is hit or miss about using those two
