Cool beans - seen them all live at one point or another, but its been ages since I dragged my rear end to a show. This may do it for me where the nearby 2023 Cruel World show didn't. (Numan is playing that one as well, plus The Soft Moon).

And I don't know who or what the gently caress vampirefreaks or davey suicide is until I saw the post above. 2nd my eyeroll.

This is 99.9999% a tour. I think Key has mentioned on new material, but I suspect it's his more of his bleepity bloop side (and maybe the soundtrack to a video game?)

Good for these dudes. Get that money. I'll probably catch some dates, especially if it's a farewell tour.

It would be awesome for a fresh remaster of Too Dark Park featured at the merch table, but beggars and all that.

No huge surprise. I'll definitely throw money at the merch table. I'd honestly be super thrilled if they leaned into the "Farewell" vibe and kept it old school. I don't hate on the post-reunion albums but give me a "Spasmolytic" and more Last Rights cuts.

Yeah. I'm really only familiar with the track that was on that Black Box comp from what seems like a lifetime ago. Good on Barker for getting out there, as the guy has definitely lived through some poo poo with Ministry but it's not the most exciting opener. I didn't hate his set when he opened for ohGr on the last tour, but my head was still very much in a "hurry up and let the headliner play."

FWIW the Toronto venue (History) is "surprisingly great" as a COVID-new, Drake-owned venture, not to drat it with faint praise. Pricy drinks, but not the worst. Absolutely fantastic sound and very well designed space. Also it's weird to people that it's in the east-end, but ... I'm happy as hell because it's close to my home lol.

I saw Skinny Puppy at REBEL before and it was just so disappointing. loving hate that place. Nothing redeeming about it. Also SP themselves were kinda ... dull and felt so old? I'm hoping they pull out the stops for this apparently final tour.

(Conversely, the recent Front 242 show was AMAZING for their effort, and they were unimpressive ~5 years ago.)

We got a House of Blues this time around in Houston. The sound is good, but nothing says "mouth the word your money" like $20 tall boys. I'll probably just gobble gummies and skip the high priced drinks. That way I can camp for the hopefully short Lead into Gold set.

teethgrinder
Oct 9, 2002

Yikes. Tall boys at History are relatively pricy for the city at around $11 CAD ... so like 1/4 the cost of a $20 USD one. Come to Toronto :)

I somehow never got to see Skinny Puppy yet. The one show I was going to see ages and ages ago I got the flu and missed it.

They said a Chicago date will be coming shortly for something special. Likely headlining Cold Waves. Hopefully at the Metro, cuz wtf, it's the METRO. Maybe they can get Ka-Spel to join them for some Tear Garden for a proper send off. LPD just played at the Beat Kitchen a few months back and it was great. Cevin has been talking to Ka-Spel on his podcasts lately...!

Lead into Gold is a great addition as well, I loved what they did way back when. Haven't seen them live, either. So long as I hear faster than light I'll be A-OK.

That one probably had the most production value. The Mythmaker tour that opened with "Anger" complete with the shadow box effects harking back to the visuals from Ain't It Dead Yet was pretty loving great though.

Their last tour had a ridiculous set list including "Candle" and "Killing Game."
Those haven't seen the light of day in a hot minute. I'm hoping for a "Knowhere?" or some of the gnarlier tracks from Last Rights on this one. "Icebreaker" would be epic too.

If they're a bucket list band for you, they still put on a decent show. If you're in it for their classic work, you might be disappointed. The set lists have been big on recent albums with a few of the classic staples for good measure. Still, it's very much arena rock with a huge light show and Gahan still has the moves. A fun time if that's your thing. Just don't go in expecting a wave of nostalgia with a set full of classic deep cuts.

Kaddish

Yeah, they're a bucket list band for me. If I recall correctly, they only played major cities/arenas last tour. If they play somewhere near Tampa Bay and ticket prices are reasonable (doubtful), I'll be there.

I like everything up to Sounds of the Universe. I thought Playing the Angel was a super strong comeback. Last two were stinkers for me.

Jesus Christ, after fees, the ticket for Skinny Puppy's farewell tour cost 120 goddamned dollars. That's like stadium ticket pricing. There's no way in hell I'm missing it, but wow. Ministry with Front Line Assembly and Gary Numan was $56 with an arguably better lineup.

Yeah, I was going to head to the Cleveland show to see them a final time, but Ticketmaster can go to hell I'm not paying $130 for a ticket. I've never had to deal with their dynamic pricing before, do tickets ever come back down after the initial rush if the venue doesn't sell out?

keep an eye out for a venue move, i was planning to go to the TLA in philly but backed out when I saw GA at $118. they just moved it to the met and now i can get tickets at a reasonable price (plus seating because my GF can't stand for a long time)

I don't remember how I paid to see SP in the past but it was well south of $100 total. I want to say like $25-30 a ticket. I've already seen them a few times which was practically a bucket list item for me, and there's a whole shitload of hassle involved in addition to getting over the sticker shock from the ticket alone.

Plus there's kind of the fact that I've listened to everything a million times and cEvin's the only one that has made music so far this decade. Weapon was 10 years ago. Tricks was 5 years ago almost.

Or maybe I've just gotten old, I dunno.

a_gelatinous_cube
Feb 13, 2005

Yeah, I don't think I've ever paid over $30 to see them. This feels like a bunch of middle aged goths just got Taylor Swifted by Ticketmaster, and I have no idea how they are able to legally scalp you tickets themselves. I've seen SP 2-3 times and Ohgr twice live so I'm not super mad, but at least hopefully they'll be able to walk away from the tour with a good final chunk of retirement money.

edit: For anyone who still goes to shows, is this the norm now? Last couple of shows I went to were Purity Ring which was a pandemic delayed show where the tickets were bought before this dynamic pricing stuff was implemented I think, and Gwar which was through AXS, and both of those were pretty normal ticket buying experiences for me.

Listened to the new Depeche Mode song a couple more times and it kind of grew on me. If the rest of the album is this good, it's already better than the last two, imo.

It's the future we deserve. In order to combat scalping, the major ticket sellers have essentially implemented scalping as a ticket selling method. Expect to see it for pretty much any major show at a Live Nation venue from now on. But don't worry - as the Live Nation CEO pointed out at a congressional hearing, Live Nation only controls 5% of American venues, so this really isn't a big deal or anything to worry about :)

This has driven me to see more shows at smaller non-Live Nation venues, which I like for various reasons, but with Sisters/Ministry/Skinny Puppy or whatever else happens this summer Live Nation is pretty much the only game in town.

Freight shipping and other costs has made touring very difficult for bands across the board. Between venues and ticketing services, our margins were already fairly low, but then a lot of venues are starting to increase their fees too, which in turn means bands need to tour at a loss (which many of us do), or try to pass those fees onto the attendee. Most of the bands I know aren't making more money than before, and things are really only increasing because of those passed-on fees. Sucks...we ended up just canceling our stuff rather than face the inevitable "why are things so expensive!" complaints... :negative:

Sisters tix in Chicago came to $78/ea after all the fees for me.

Ticket prices are weird. I got Morbid Angel tix that was 2for1 and it came to $80 for a "single" ticket after fees. Vader in Chicago was $31 after fees. Legendary Pink Dots was $25/ea after fees. The Milwaukee Metal Fest that is three days with 40 bands is $140 a day, or just over $400 for all three days. There is another metalfest happening in a smaller venue here in town with just as many bands and Flotsam & Jetsam, Massacre, and a bunch of others over three days for $120 total after fees. Amon Amarth/Obituary/Carcass/Cattle Decapitation was $40.. FLA was $28/ea after fees. TKK was $25/ea. Stromkern was $12. Revco (final show @ metro)/StromKern/Rein was $45.

It's all over the place.

Skinny Puppy is pushing a poo poo ton of merch on Facebook. And it's all mostly great looking shirts and stuff. Cevin sold out of his pre-order synth yesterday at $750/ea. They know they can charge a lot because Puppy fans will pay it. I'll be paying it without hesitation. I hope this sparks them to keep going somehow, honestly.
