Northman ruled and the only reason I think it's Eggers' worst film is because *points at everything else he's made too* loving look at that!! I'm so excited for his Nosferatu

Northman felt basically like someone telling you the saga rather than you experiencing the story through the protagonist's POV, if that makes sense. Especially the scene where he gets the sword being depicted as a supernatural fight against a big scary skelly then the cut to it actually being really boring with a dead normal skelly

Northman was ~OK~, it's pretty but you can only watch so many movies about men being too toxic to live with themselves, even if it's self aware about it

Trying to do the major battle as a oner made the choreography come off as insanely stiff. The really good parts of the movie are just the day of the life vignettes after like burning all the people they aren't enslaving.

i almost never see a one shot or fake one shot (birdman/1917 style) action scene where I felt it added anything. Maybe children of men which has 2, and the second one where blood gets on the camera, is especially effective. And the oldboy hallway. I know like atomic blonde and daredevil have some but they seemed boring and stagey. idk. its a technique that sounds impressive but rarely adds anything, and practically you give up selling hits, editing for rhythm, placing the camera in the best spot for energy, you give up almost everything else. If you go to film school you will hear every single person who claims to be a director say, at multiple points, "I want to do it as a oner" so it's extremely played out especially when film lasts more than 4.5 minutes and so it carries no practical benefit.

Man, I feel bad for telling people they have to stick with Bojack Horseman for seven episodes, twenty is really too much unless the actors come out of the screen and go down on you or something. 1stGear has issued a correction as of 03:50 on Feb 12, 2023 |

in china TV shows are shot all at once, no seasons no renewals, and if a show performs well they will edit say like 10 episodes into 15 b/c they wanna sell more advertising time with the good shows edit: I mean the episodes are all shot in one big production rather than on a per episode basis producing a season, which has to be renewed. They just do the whole series and the editor figure out how many episodes etc later (they do have a plan to start and a contract with what they need to deliver but things change) Antonymous has issued a correction as of 03:53 on Feb 12, 2023 |
