YOU CAN FLY!!!
To be fair to The Walking Dead, the show had more ups than downs beyond just season 1. While the season on the farm was a bit of a snooze, the season after in the prison with the governor was great. Then when everyone was traveling north, there was great stuff like with the hot hipster cannibals, or the episode where Carol killed the little girl because she realized the girl was a sociopath.

I think it didn't get legitimately bad until they got to Alexandria and subsequently met Negan. By that point the show had become actively manipulative and really loving with the viewers, bringing in known actors and setting them up to be big new players, and then killing them off unceremoniously after only like 2 or 3 episodes. Or one character in particular, making it seemed like they died, and even putting them on a press tour to talk about how they were no longer on the show, only for them to show up again alive and well just a few episodes later, only for them to kill them off for good just a couple of episodes after that.

I'm told that it regained some quality in the last couple of seasons, but they really burned a lot of good will with the viewers, and once I'm done with a show, I'm done.

I agree but I felt the 4th episode was predicable and reminded me of Walking Dead when the "bad things" started and someone entered a cheat code for headshots

I was surprised that the thing at the end of TLOU Ep. 5 wasn't CGI (at least not completely). Saw a picture and it's a really big really expensive costume.

It's definitely cg in some parts. You can always tell by the floaty animation when it's doing something really active.

I always love when they build out the suits though. That's gotta be fun.

I also watched TWD to the cdc episode when it first came out, and then bailed. Series just sucked too hard and I'm pretty sure it just got worse. I was only in cuz of the name of Darabont really. The comic is pretty ok tho, I enjoyed the city-state era.

It's Walking Dead with better actors. The best example of the genre in recent years was Z Nation. The zombie apocalypse premise is just so ridiculous on its face that unless you completely lean into the insanity you're just retreading what has been done a thousand times before.

Narcos Pedro is somewhere in between Oberyn and Gruff solemn pedro. I guess he's mostly just normal in that show.

Tbh I never thought about it, but it is kind of weird that this dude who caught the public's eye via this wild, flamboyant character has been typecast into mostly only playing gruff characters that barely talk.

Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac have both gotten almost entirely swallowed up in franchise work, and it kinda sucks.

Joel is somebody who would do loving anything for his daughter and if they do the rest of the season right you’ll believe it

I think the show just hasn’t yet built up to what makes Joel so beloved

On that note I rewatched Ridley Scott's Robin Hood recently and Oscar Isaac actually kills it as Prince John. I had no memory of him being it.

I loved it, but it was pretty universally panned at the time IIRC. Ironically the big criticisms were that it mixed fantasy and history too much and was too dark and gritty, basically the two ingredients that made Game of Thrones such a success shortly after. It's hard to say that it was ahead of its time when GoT came out like a year later though.

If you liked Kingdom of Heaven and the Last Duel I would give it a shot.

I never gave Robin Hood a fair shake when I saw it only because I remembered that it was originally going to be "Nottingham" with the sheriff as the protagonist; would've like to have seen that

Ridley's Robin Hood is a great film with a miscast lead, much like Kingdom of Heaven. Crowe is a decent actor but he's pretty one dimensional and there is no depth to his portrayal of Robin.

The supporting cast is really strong though. Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Danny Huston, Max Von Sydow, William Hurt, Mark Addy. Just stacked.

I've been meaning to watch Black Death since it came out *checks watch* 13 years ago, and finally got around to it. I thought it was really good but good god that is one of the bleakest things I have ever watched. That loving ending.

Also kind of crazy how it came out a year before Game of Thrones and pretty much looks just like an early GOT episode and also shares a non insignificant amount of the cast. Makes me wonder how that all came out since I imagine BD and GOT ssn1 had to be in production about the same time.
