I like to think that as Clan Sea Fox absorbs more and more of the secular ComStar's HPG network and holdings across the IS, it winds up being infiltrated and co-opted by ex-Clan Wolverine Word of Blake types.

There's a few different sequences sprinkled around various books at the time where someone goes "hey there's an incoming jump signature. It's really big, like a Monolith? Oh poo poo it's so big that it must be a WarShip. Oh poo poo now it's bigger than a Potemkin, it's the biggest jump sequence ever" and one of them is when they're on the way to Huntress. Obviously nobody knows what they are at the time though.

We also now know that WoB had access to the Exodus Road (and also everything else ComStar ever touched) because the head of ROM was a WoB mole, so they would have been able to shadow the fleet.

I recall the scene where some pro-Katherine warship laying in ambush for Victor gets increasingly nervous as an incoming jump signature goes beyond fully-loaded Potemkin scale before being offscreened what was later revealed to be a Word Aegis super-jumping from Terra, but that was probably not the case with Serpent. AFAIR, they were a few days behind schedule because they ran into a Ghost Bear fleet and had to effect repairs and barely noticed an incoming jump seconds before they left and had to check sensor records to be sure. No time for things to look unusual, plus superjumping renders the K-F drive unusable, which is a really bad idea for trailing a fleet beyond the red line.

Never used a quad mech before until Megamek dealt me out one, Goliath-3L. It seemed really neat but the map I was on was terrible for it I think. Getting people in LoS and in my firing arc was a pain.

I have no comments about the difficulty of playing with quadruped 'Mechs but it did make me go take a look at what the most recent art for the Goliath was like and what on earth

It's a chubby tank that grew really long man-legs!

I think I've also seen the new Scorpion art already but it's still pretty comical.

Anyways, maybe better luck with the GOL-6M that has a turret?

I think the Reseen Goliath made the right call by making the legs shorter and thicker.

Giving the Scorpion a peg like that is better than the platform they seem to recommend for the Bishamon. Quads have always a little hard to even fit on their base.

The new Goliath and Spider art and figures look pretty faithful to the OG 3025 unseen versions to me.

OK something I'm sketchy on now, in the box set Game of Armored Combat rules the way crits read to me is you always hit something in there if you get a crit. Now in Megamek I frequently see crits miss anything vital.

Is this another advanced rule I'm not familiar with or have I botched crits in my in person learning games?

This is correct. There were only a couple space battles in the Exodus Road books, and they were pretty straightforward.

I don't have chapter and verse in front of me but I've always played it as "reroll until you crit something." Since like 1993.

I am just reading through the battle mech manual for the first time to learn the game, but that is what I understood the critical rules to be.

If there is anything to hit, then reroll untill you hit it. If all the stuff in the location have been destroyed *in the same phase of the turn* then the excess crits do nothing, and are wasted. The crits transfer from empty location only if the said location was empty at the beginning of the phase.

E: For example, if there is a medium laser in a side torso and you roll 2 crits, then you destroy the medium laser and the second crit is wasted (nothing there to destroy). Also if you shoot at it with some other mech and crit the same location, then the crits are again wasted. All shooting is done in the same phase. Now if in the physical attack phase you punch the same side torso with the now destroyed laser and roll a crit, then the crit will transfer to center torso because the location was empty in the beginning of the phase.

Nothing important. Everyone immediately figured out they were going to make him be Stone so the authors torpedoed that and I guess just left him with that weird old guy who said that they were going to "do things together."

These make me realise how many dead plot ends BT has. Part of me would like to see some of them cleared up, while another part kind of likes the fact that the devs don't try to explain every last thing. At the same time, things like Bannson just vanishing because they can't be bothered to finish his story seems less "mystery" and more "can't be bothered". There's got to be a good dozen or more novel-viewpoint characters that not only never have their arcs resolved, but just vanish from the record without a trace.

From Dark Age alone we've got;

~ Jacob Bannson's disappearance (although it's been referenced several times, including relatively recently)
~ Kev Rosse's (And the two Nova Cat Mystics') murderer, Kev himself has barely been mentioned despite how important he was to the Cats.
~ Who were the armed groups who blew up the HPG networks?
~ Kisho Nova Cat (Although this one is being telegraphed so hard that he WILL reappear as part of Alaric's IlClan that I wouldn't count it as one).

As some concession to AS gameplay I'm going to make it homogenous only at lance level and maybe make the command lance mix and match. As intimidating and slick as just dropping identical unit spam to the PV total would be.

Handwave it as a different branch of Republic intelligence. You get reports of various US Federal agencies busting each other in drugs stings pretty regularly so it seems likely that the Republic of the Sphere has that problem except moreso.

He is still almost definitely not a spy

Soiled Meat
As much as I think it would be a good twist if it was Victor Davion, my suspicion is that it was actually Bannson.

Bannson was pissed because the Republic wouldn't make him a Paladin, was ready to go with a private army the moment the HPG network went down, and had the money and connections to burn. Toss in a few pissed off "Former Blakists" who might jump at one last chance to humiliate the Inner Sphere (nevermind that the Republic was their plan) and you've got yourself a possible culprit.

Bannson just seriously overestimated how effective his private army would be.
