here's a view that completely changed in the 1980s, when the old elevated rail line you see in the first pic was torn down (along with the elevated station) and a new station was built next to it that is served by below-grade tracks running in a trench https://twitter.com/OldSchoolBoston/status/1630729695342862336 the old elevated station crossing over the street in the above pic was roughly where the traffic lights in the below pic are  in this 3D Google Earth view you can see a bit of the trench that the tracks leading into (under) the new station run in

when I was in high school we used to play a game we called roofball at my one friend's house (which was a 1940s-era bungalow with a low roof) but it was more along the lines of volleyball; we'd all stand in the front yard and keep bopping the ball back up in the air at the roof trying to keep a volley going as it bounced off the roof
