I'm all for abstraction but the only abstraction that writers did before analytics was "wins good, losses bad" which is why Derrick Rose and Steve Nash won MVPs that were totally undeserved. Not saying analytics are the end all be all but helping your team lose on the final possession of the game vs. lose by 20 has to count for something. And being a good player on a winning team doesn't count for much when the team would win just as many games without you

Those MVPs were bad, but the 02-03 All Star nod for Antoine Walker might legit be the most undeserved award of all time: 27.9% usage and .467 TS%. And while they was a down year for him somewhat, it wasn't that far off his career averages. He got paid star money and dude was a flat out worse shooter percentage wise than Westbrook with the Lakers this season.
