This may be a dumb question but...how do clubs on the Strip work? My friends and I put together a fairly chill bachelorette party plan, and there's some ambient interest in checking out one of the clubs. I am not a huge clubber, and haven't been to a club after graduating college. Everyone in this group is a girl, if that matters.

Looking online, there's some stuff about promoters and buying tickets. Do we have to buy the tickets in advance, or is it okay if we just show up and wait to get in?

To confirm what an earlier poster said the strip currently stinks of poo poo and Caesars particularly seems to have a major problem with its drains because it smells BAD in there

TI having it's own CVS and an empty fridge in the room (might have been a Radisson Reward upgrade) were huge points in it's favour.

Man, you are the first person in almost 20 years to call that out! Made my day, hah. I'm gonna have to dig out the old box set and watch some, especially given that munch just passed. I remember the original dvds were pretty poor quality though. Still no blu-ray version huh! "New" set is still 35 goddamn DVDs.

What's the best way to get discounted show tickets if i don't pay table/slots? Penn and Teller specifically, but I'm also down to see Piff and a lot of other random stuff too

My wife and I used Tix 4 Tonight to get discounted tickets for Absinthe a few years ago. The gimmick is you have to go buy them in-person day of the event, and the line to purchase begins forming before the booth open up, so no guarantee you'll get the show you want.

My quick review after 8 days in Vegas as a visiting Brit

1) it’s really expensive now. $25 minimum bet on all table games in the strip casinos. They’re still very generous with free drinks though , which is just as well when a bottle of beer and a glass of wine is $30 at the bar. O’Sheas Irish casino on the linq promenade is good fun and has $10 games if you need something cheaper

2) Cosmopolitan is best hotel to stay by far. Main reason - it has balconies and fresh air. The only hotel with outside balconies. It also has the best view of the strip and fountains. It’s in a great location, the takeaway food joints in it are all decent - especially the wraps, the hot chicken and the secret pizza place.

3) Mandalay Bay is not worth walking all the way down to. It has incredibly bland decor and basically looks and feels like a Hilton conference hotel. The MGM is looking very tired and is in need of a makeover and some love.

4) Adele at Caesars was incredible. Probably the best produced stage show I have ever seen, but she hasn’t got long left now and the ticket prices are obscene

5) parts of the strip are in a real mess and smell bad and if they want to convince the average punter that it’s worth staying on and paying strip prices they really need to tidy it up fast. It’s also hilarious to me just how actively hostile to pedestrians so much of the strip is. For a place that should be all about visitors strolling up and down and spending money in places it’s laughable at how awful that experience is.

Overall we had a great week and did everything we wanted to, apart from a Grand Canyon helicopter because it was too foggy. Vegas still has the magic but they need to make sure they keep raising their game to justify the prices. How the average Joe American can afford to spend time on the strip is beyond me

Weren't you there during DICE? Major convention week.

But yeah, I like gambling downtown, too.

I basically live at District and Tekka bar when I'm there. The prevalence of food courts is amazing now and so much easier. Aria's food court was pretty good too.

Oh two last things the casinos need to get over themselves and just do.

1) ban smoking. Yes I know the reasoning but It’s loving disgusting in those casinos and beyond crazy to have all these beautiful hotels and rooms stinking of poo poo

2) put a loving coffee pot in the bedrooms. It’s hilariously dumb that the Walgreens in Planet Hollywood has an entire wall of $20 kettles and Mr Coffees for sale for people to use for a couple of days in their room and then discard because the hotel wants to charge $50 for a room service coffee

They can ban smoking but don't take my weed vape away from me!

I also hate all the smoking but I always love it when the dealers are openly contemptuous of players smoking at their table. I get tickled when they wrinkle their nose and dramatically try to shoo away all the smoke.

There's no way in hell they ban smoking unless there's a Chinese travel ban that becomes permanent or something. Every single and I mean EVERY single Chinese dude I saw at the Aria casino (which was probably over half the people there) was chain smoking like mad. But yeah, it's gross and even my "non smoking" room smelled like smoke with bath cleaner on top of it.

What's the shortest length extended stay option that gives the best bang for the buck price-wise near the strip? A week? A month? Don't need anything extravagant, even a tiny studio is fine as long as it's not in a super sketchy area

E: And as a data point for anyone planning a trip, I floated around the majority of the strip getting a feel for things and doing stereotypical tourist stuff mixed in with paying poker and my watch logged 72 miles of walking, I'd say expecting 10 miles of walking a day if you want to explore feels about correct; it was mixed halfway between indoor and outdoor, and I decided to get a bus pass after a couple days

Someone asked in February about burgers and I ignored this thread. I use to like Holstein's at Cosmopolitan but I don't know if it's still good.

The (actually 24 hours!) cafe at Palms served up the best burger I've had in years, possibly ever.

I have found a new burger place! Badger Cafe is a tiny, cash only stripmall place at Tropicana and Spencer. Typical breakfast/lunch diner place, mismatched mugs, that sort of thing. Shares an inner door with a dive bar and a pool hall. But the build your own burger program owns bones in all the ways. I was skeptical, but like so many great restaurants in Vegas, the sketch strip mall is actually a sign of quality. You can even get griddled pastrami on your burger which is where they had my heart.

To be fair, if you're here on vacation or for work and you're not down for an adventure to weird off strip places, it might now be for you.

Yeah if you're willing to eat out of a nondescript strip mall that looks like it predates the building boom, there's a lot of out of the way places in this town that have a very good reputation even if they don't always give off good vibes (and some of them, good reputation or no, are just filthy. I won't be doing Blueberry Hill again!)

The one I've recently wanted to try is the 80s cafe by UNLV. Just haven't had any reason to be over there in years.

Yeah, some of the blueberries are pretty gross. But then the original Lotus of Siam was in Commercial Center, which is really nasty. Delices Gourmands is a fantastic French bakery in a sketch strip mall between a Terribles and a closed Staples. And like a billion places in Chinatown. This is Las Vegas tho - a land of contrasts.

And you should come over to Maryland Parkway sometime. There's good stuff going on there.

I thought Gordon Ramsey Burger was awful. Or just really plain. BlueBerry Hill is the only late night diner open that isn't Dennys, it did the trick and was clean when I was there.

The best place I ever ate at was Paradise Cantina. A dive bar in a strip mall.

Stranger in a Strange Land
My wife and I are going back to Vegas for the first time since 2019 this July, and we're stoked. We're going for the Final Fantasy 14 fanfest, but it's really just an excuse to hang out downtown playing video poker and in my case to go rummage around pawn shops looking for interesting stuff. Assuming there's any left. Last time we were in town, a bunch of my old haunts had shut down, I can't imagine the pandemic did many favors for the Vegas pawn shop industry.

Have any really standout off-strip restaurants popped up in the last couple years? I'll be making my usual pilgrimage to Lotus of Siam, and god willing the Pok Pok wings place in the Cosmo street food thing if it's still around, but I'm always looking for new good stuff.

tfw you're peeing next to someone in the lineup and they don't know
Last time I was in Vegas we had a great time- this was a few years ago? But a group of women were going borderline rapey and were following me and my friends drunkenly heckling us to gently caress them for literally like 20 minutes, which was not as great as it sounds for numerous reasons. Also we're married. It was off season and pretty late at night so there weren't many people around on the strip either.

Then later on in the trip one of my buddies got propositioned by a "lady who does sex for money" which was weird because we were in a group together and she zero'ed in on him for some reason. He's easily the most mild mannered of everyone and not exactly what I would call "classically handsome". I've been wondering since then, do sex workers have a "type" that they might be more likely to chat up? The fact that he got chatted up was not weird in itself; that he got chatted up, and only him, in a group of men was what made me wonder what the deal was.

I still miss lotus of siam which remains one of the best meals of my life and I have had the pleasure of many nice meals in many nice places.

e: also had a really, really great night at Sen of Japan now that I think about it.

I'm asking for conjecture here, but would it be fair to assume Vegas will be pretty quiet after the F1 leaves in November? Fountainbleu is opening in December which I suppose could be a draw, but it's also a kind of expansion of capacity, I suppose.
