Oh poo poo. You're in WA? Can you help point me in the direction of good stores and places to play? I have a budding desire to play tabletop Battletech but I've literally never done game store gaming and don't know where go or what do. My mental map of game and hobby stores is also over a decade out of date.

Bothell is in easy reach for me, I'm in Redmond on the edge of Kirkland.

Zulu's Board Game Cafe has a pretty big BT scene. There's a biweekly BattleTech event there every other Wednesday at 7, and the next one is on the 8th. They're typically run in their event center to take advantage of the huge tables they have down there. There's also a fair amount of official events sponsored by CGL that go down there as Randall Bills seems to live nearby. As I said, I'll probably be there for the Kickstarter launch party because I'm an official BT freelancer now which means I'm big time

I have a couple friends who live in Ballard, and last time I visited them we quite literally stumbled upon a place called the Waystone that has a small but growing BT community. They have a discord that's worth hitting up for a game if you're going to be in the neighborhood.

I'm not a great source of info about Seattle-area stores, though. I'm down in the Portland area and drive up to visit sometimes.

Oh neat. Not sure what the phoenix hawk head does, but I can appreciate the aesthetic.

Also begs the question of what a Catapult could do if one of its missile ears were replaced by a -K variant PPC ear. I guess every robot ends up as half of a Timber Wolf in the end(?)

It's pretty much a straight swap to put a PPC into an arm and replace the LRM ammo in the adjacent torso with a single heat sink.

The Draconis Combine just had so many PPCs stockpiled and no good chassis to put them on they started strapping them to everything like the Catapult and the Dragon and the Charger.

And not the lovely PPCs you find in Marik space, we're talking the best-of-the-best Lord's Light PPCs, which are notable for being far more flexible than other PPCs. Which just reinforces one of my own long-held conspiracy theories: that 'Mech armor plates are flexible and 'Mechs can flex.

The Watchman is my go-to for cheap and effective, but anything similar works. 3025 the choices are worse, you're probably looking for the Quickdraw with the four forward-firing lasers. Or the up-armored Jenner.

Grasshoppers make for great bodyguards, but they're slow.

My reasoning was its cheap, and it could hang back and then hit lights with its axe.

The Hatchetman is way too slow to actually menace lights with that hatchet. It's honestly not a very good machine, but it's historically significant so it keeps getting built.

Man, I have a good track record for Battletech so far. Five games in under three months, and I taught someone Alpha Strike.

Planning an Alpha Strike campaign soon and I've built that force. I'm also just building a Comstar-At-Tukayyid force for reasons and eventually would like to have a Trinary of every clan totem as well, painted and good to go so I can run little Tukayyid campaigns

Unrelated - where could I find little trucker caps that I could glue to the tops of my mechs for the "yee haws" a merc group that loves its truncker caps

It isn't cheap, but I like using the Komodo as a missile boat guard. Fast enough to get into position, and 10 medium lasers (with the DHS to use them) is enough to scare off any light mech. Even at a high BTH, that's good odds of 1-2 hits a turn and that's significant for your little guys. (Plus TAG/ECM/potential C3 is a nice addition to an LRM lance.)

The problem with using the Komodo as a screen is that you can get a Wraith for cheaper.

I change most of my answers to the Wraith. The Watchman's still cheaper, BV wise, but few things will deter ambitious light 'Mechs as well as a Wraith.

Hell, I'd argue that it's a pretty effective deterrant to Mediums as well. Just the constant threat of the Wraith jumping into your rear arc when you go to engage the fire support is just too great to ignore.

I don't remember the range on using AMS to engage missile flights aimed at someone else, if you use that optional rule. But that might also be a point in the Komodo's favor.

You know, now that AMS isn't useless garbage.
