Which. When an engine makes a grip of power so that isn't working its absolute taint off, no wonder it gets better fuel economy.

The Ford CVH is my personal frustration, when I moved from an Escort to an Acura RSX-S that made twice the power out of the same displacement and fuel economy, that was it for me and domestics. Yeah sure it was a 25 year old engine at that point compared to the brand new K20A2 but Ford was still using it in new cars.

My first car was an ‘85 Mitsubishi Montero that had an anemic 3speed automatic with 105hp 2.6L 4cylinder. It’s 0-60 time was a full second more then my current cars 1/4 mile time.

Is even the least reliable luxury car really that bad in 2023? Like if I buy a brand new Range Rover am I gonna be back at the dealer every 3 months? I’ve only ever bought economy cars so I can’t tell how real the memes are.

2021 audi a6 allroad, supposedly decent reliability. Been to dealership every 3 months after the first 6. I will be going again end of March and they say it’ll probably be in the shop for 4 days.

Stepping out of your automotive comfort zone can be interesting. Refreshing, even. Too bad I'd probably have to jump through hoops and a lot of red tape to import a Citroen (something like a BX or a Zantia), because rolling around in a modern yet still-oddball French car is something I'd love to do.

I should make clear to non-North American posters: No one in North America liked the Cavalier or thought it was a good car, especially not General Motors.

Yeah, that's a m103/m104 mash up with a 24V head running CIS-E. I love that era of benz. Meanwhile nothing else really got that engine engine. It was either LFM in the post '93 124/140 and a small one in the early W202 making unimpressive numbers or a lovely god awful boat anchor 2.6 M103 in the W201.

It is for all intents and purposes, another outlier, like the honda F, A, and B.


Fords Constant Vibration and Harshness (The CVH) is actually a great call out because they made that rattly shaky gutless noisy piece of poo poo till 2003 or someshit where it was replaced by the crankwalkapalooza zetec.

Looks like VW is getting rid of the haptic steering wheel controls and bringing back real buttons.

The touch slider volume remains. Guess that's too expensive to fix.

Eh that's very much a you wouldn't want one if you could have one situation. The Xantia certainly was comfortable but most of the engines and all of the transmissions were garbage.

Dealer markup is such a bizarre concept.

I'm so used to car makers having price lists on their websites, including available extras and so on. That's the maximum you will be paying, no matter which dealership you go to, but there is room to negotiate downwards.

I was even advised by the dealer to not get a better radio installed when I bought my Panda, because I'd have to pay registration tax based on the additional cost of the radio. It would be a lot cheaper to get the radio installed afterwards.

Still never buying a new car ever again.

It sounds like there were plans for a new Mazda 6 based on this RWD platform, but Mazda may have cancelled it based on what Mazda executives have said in public. Mazda's a small company, and few people buy sedans anymore, anywhere.

Here's an executive from Mazda Europe:

The main rule for buying a Ford is to never buy the first model year of any new or new gen vehicle. Personally I think the sweet spot is the midcycle refresh, but at least wait until year 2.

My Mustang is a 2018, first year of the refresh and it has been problem free other than a hood with hilariously bad alignment.
