I was off work on JAn 6 and watched the whole thing unfold via live streams that the MAGA's were posting themselves, along with a few reporters' streams. So Tucker and whatever Dinesh D'Souza is probably going to do with this footage can gently caress right off. I saw it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears in real time.

It also ties in with the shift from Are Troops being the military (ultimately a federal institution, with all that entails) to local police (fundamentally above the law and free to ignore all other governmental power). You started to see this with Trump talking about Bush's wars in 2016, but it really kicked into high gear in 2020, giving us the Fash Blue Line flag and all that.

The Military is compromised by the woke, you see, with its diversity trainings and "tolerance." Right now, that's all because of Biden, but under Trump, it was in spite of him. Either way, they've been largely written off.

Cops (and, ideally, local Sheriffs) are much better at eliminating internal enemies in a satisfactorily gruesome way.

The standard for that seems to be how much of a military cosplayer/stolen valor type the Sheriff is. The closer you get to looking like Pat Hingle in Batman & Robin, the more likely you are to be a sheriff the right-wing likes (see, David Clark)

I could tell he was Q adjacent and all that and I suspect the host did too but whoever's show it was said "WEll, pretty much" and then launched into something about inflation.

But the call really chilled me, even if it didn't go down the road the caller wanted it to and the host kind of hand waved it rather than dig into specifics, because SO MANY of these yahoos really really believe this poo poo. I could tell it was the Pizza Parlor Adrenochrome Soros Grooming poo poo but even though it got deflected, it didn't get rejected. Or even examined.

There's always bumpers and lead-ins from/to other shows (which includes an insane thing that breaks the nature of time itself where the evening shows throw to each other in a loop for the rerun block). I imagine this is more like they want other Fox hosts to make Tucker's thing part of their editorial content inside their shows. So it'll probably be a segment where they play a Tucker clip and then discuss with a talking head.

FNC is centrally-organized, and this kind of e-mail is the mechanism by which that happens. Different hosts have a different amount of latitude for their shows. For example, Chris Wallace and Mark Levin get to do whatever the hell they want. The hosts on a shorter leash know who they are, and the whole thing works itself out. Wallace has free reign because he's one of the last journalists left at the organization with a show. Levin produces his own show in his basement and he routinely goes up against Sunday Night Football so it's basically a vanity project and a cheap slot to fill that Fox doesn't give much of a poo poo about.

I was shocked tonight that Jesse Kelly not only said something I agree with, but it wasn't even something I agree with him for different reasons on, he was spot on with the reasoning too. It involved Lindsay Graham talking about introducing legislation to send the US military into Mexico to stop the cartels. Jesse called it "Probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life from a Republican or a Democrat." And he went on to explain why it's an incredibly stupid idea: if we don't have support of Mexico's federal/state governments, we're invading a sovereign nation and that's going to cause the rest of the world to turn on us, it's going to kill the trade we have going between our countries, Mexico is a big country and people have to eat, guns need bullets, and vehicles need gas so we'd have to set up supply lines which would be difficult, and the cartels aren't going to have big signs on their warehouse saying "FENTANYL STORED HERE" so what's the plan for finding out where they are? And he even explained sending in a Seal team/Green Berets is a dumb idea because how will they get there in the first place, and even if you want to say "Well they'll parachute in!" then how do they get out of Mexico when they're done?

It was just a lot of "Even if you think this sounds good because we need to get tough on the cartels, this ain't it chief." And yes, I know that he's pushing the "Mexico is sending Chinese fentanyl" stuff in his explanation, but I'm willing to overlook that because even if it was true he's right that it wouldn't be easy to find where it's being stored.

Dead Capitol Police Officer’s Family Slams ‘Sleazy’ Fox News Over Jan. 6 Footage

“Every time the pain of that day seems to have ebbed a bit, organizations like Fox rip our wounds wide open again,” the officer’s family said.

quote:

The family of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died shortly after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, is furious that Fox News host Tucker Carlson aired video footage of him as part of Carlson’s renewed effort to downplay the violence on that day.

Sicknick was pepper sprayed and fought with rioters on Jan. 6, as he fought to keep supporters of then-President Donald Trump from overrunning the building. He died the next day. After an autopsy, the D.C. Medical Examiner ruled that Sicknick died of “natural causes” rather than as a direct result of injuries sustained during the riot, but added that “all that transpired [on Jan. 6] played a role in his condition.”

On Monday night, Carlson aired a video that he said showed Sicknick on Jan. 6 confronting rioters in the crypt of the Capitol, which Carlson claimed was after the time when Sicknick had been pepper sprayed.

Carlson said the video showed that Democrats had turned Sicknick into a “prop” and a “martyr” for political purposes, and that the Capitol police officer appeared “healthy and vigorous” in the footage. Carlson said that made it “hard to imagine” his death the next day had anything to do with the injuries he sustained that day.

Carlson’s minimizing portrayal of the day outraged Sicknick’s family. “Every time the pain of that day seems to have ebbed a bit, organizations like Fox rip our wounds wide open again, and we are frankly sick of it,” the Sicknick family said in a statement about Carlson’s claims, which was first reported by CNN.

The Sicknick family is outraged at the ongoing attack on our family by the unscrupulous and outright sleazy so-called ‘news’ network of Fox News who will do the bidding of Trump or any of his sycophant followers, no matter what damage is done to the families of the fallen, the officers who put their lives on the line, and all who suffered on Jan 6th due to the lies started by Trump and spread by sleaze slinging outlets like Fox,” the statement continues.

'Bulls---': GOP senators rebuke Tucker Carlson for downplaying Jan. 6 as 'mostly peaceful'

WASHINGTON — Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Senate Republicans lashed out at conservative Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday after he characterized the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol as "mostly peaceful chaos."

At a GOP leadership news conference, McConnell, R-Ky., said he wanted to align himself with the letter sent to the U.S. Capitol Police force by Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger, who denounced Carlson for spreading “offensive and misleading conclusions” about the insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, including a “disturbing accusation” that Officer Brian Sicknick’s death had nothing to do with the riot.

"I want to associate myself entirely with the opinion of the chief and the Capitol Police about what happened on Jan. 6," McConnell said as he held up a copy of the letter. "It was a mistake, in my view, for Fox News to depict this in a way that’s completely at variance with what our chief law enforcement official here at the Capitol thinks.”

A handful of other Senate Republicans on Tuesday pushed back against Carlson's claim that Jan. 6 was "peaceful chaos," with Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina blasting the remarks as “bullshit.”

Carlson, the popular but controversial figure on Fox, made the comments to his millions of viewers Monday night as he aired selected clips of never-before-seen video of the Capitol on Jan. 6 and downplayed the hourslong insurrection, in which 140 police officers were injured.

“I think it’s bullshit,” Tillis told reporters in the Capitol.

I was here. I was down there, and I saw maybe a few tourists, a few people who got caught up in things,” he added. “But when you see police barricades breached, when you see police officers assaulted, all of that ... if you were just a tourist you should’ve probably lined up at the visitors’ center and came in on an orderly basis.”

Getting nowhere fast
So I'm at a loss. How are we supposed to fix things when half the country is so far gone? Anything Fox News says is gospel. Anything anywhere else is fake. Fox News running a story on a professor talking about microaggression? Major issue. The Iowa bill banning gay marriage and invalidating all Federal Gay marriage protections? Fake. Not real. Transgender people in sports? The end of the country. Mike Pence saying there is no such thing as freedom from religion? Not real.

What are we supposed to do?
