Lord Stimperor posted:If you clog up the only lavatory, is that an urgency or a distress? Knowing the USAF, they'd re-use the E-3's lav, which is basically an old-style porta-potty where there's a toilet bowl sitting on top of the tank, and you can look straight in. Taking a seat was always a dangerous proposition, because if the jet hits a bump Poseidon's not just gonna give you a kiss...he's giving you the bad blue business. It was not uncommon on longer flights for the lav to get nearly full. It was SOP for crew to save to their gatorade or whatever empty bottles, so guys could pee in there and reserve the last of the lav's space for the ladies. And they say chivalry is dead.

It looks like a render because he HDR'd the poo poo out of it. Way too much postprocessing. Cute composition though.

Mr. Wiggles posted:So much for Reno. This isn't a huge shock, since the fatality last year probably made the arguments from the housing developers around the airport stronger, but it's still sad since the organizers had been working on a bunch of stuff for the 60th anniversary of the races in 2024. Since the races require a venue with some pretty specific requirements (large areas of empty space around the airport, the ability to deal with a lot of spectators, and decent weather in September to reduce conflict with airshow season), I'm pretty sure they won't do anything next year, and it's pretty likely the event never comes back anywhere.

Elviscat posted:I love this guy, he's done a ton of work on something that he can't possibly have done any actual calculations on. Yup, that's the dude. To be fair to him, he did eventually manage to make the deathtrap stabilize up a bit. Some of it may have been PIO; it didn't stagger around the sky in later flights. However, it kept suffering mechanical failures due to his poo poo tier engineering and construction. Ironically, the engine failure which forced him to emergency crashland in a cornfield probably saved his life. At the time, he was attempting to ferry fly the thing from east coast to west coast, but couldn't take it above a few thousand feet. I 100% believe that if he had been able to continue, he was absolutely going to kill himself in a box canyon somewhere in the Rockies. Seems like no lessons were learned and he still thinks that having taught himself to run CAD and CFD software means he can engineer things with revolutionary performance. His hubless ducted fan thing is a hoot.
