it's not that many years since it came out that US intelligence agencies had agreements with danish intelligence agencies to spy on merkel and other european politicians by tapping critical internet cables in denmark. all that happened is the danes who leaked it went to jail for compromising cooperation between intelligence agencies. they recently charged a former minister for acknowledging it in the press.

I haven't seen much from the TDF in awhile, I think the assertion that Bakhmut is held by them just comes from western disbelief of how lovely regular Ukrainian units look now. I would bet that the TDF was mostly expended during the summer campaign, it's a volunteer force that got a massive infusion of men at the beginning of the war who apparently mostly joined because of the old law that they couldn't be deployed outside their home oblast, kind of a backdoor way to avoid mobilization. As a consequence of being deployed to Donbass anyway they loved to threaten to mutiny, but we've barely seen those videos out of Bakhmut.

Granted, there probably are still TDF units out there in quieter parts of the country but I think the fact that they were on the edge of mutiny and the fact that their members may be a little more connected than average has kept them off the lines , and instead a bunch of continually reformed pre-war units are “feeder brigades” just there as a conduit for “meat” with so little training that they are basically dressed up civilians.

There are also “elite” brigades with Western gear but they also seem to have weeks (rather than days) of training at best.

In that context, TDF forces are probably better off at least they had some actual training 30 years ago but they are probably only to get activated if a Russian offensive expands.

I could see the Ukrainians trying to replace some actual better units by taking them off the line and replacing them with feeder units, the problem they waited too late too the point where convoys are getting knocked out and they may have been better if they stayed put. I guess there may be some attempt at a breakout but obviously the Russians know this and from combat footage...I don't think Wagner has ran out of either shells or men.

The issue is that you absolutely need demolition specialists considering it was a complex operation and as well as the size munitions themselves. That is where the story completely falls apart, it didn’t seem like an attack by a bunch of amateurs.

That said, if you want guys quickly moving with large Zodiac boats with a sizable payload, you probably also have a specialized craft as well. That is going to look a bit obvious.

Hersh had a specific story that matched up at with the movement of a specific craft that would be capable of such a thing by a organization with the capacity to accomplish that.

A sub loaded with seals can leave port, do this job, and get back without detection very easily, especially off our waters while we are doing unrelated military exercises in the region.

Man, the Danish media is atrocious (as is most western media to be fair). Credit to TV2 News where it's due, they did do a rather fair report on Seymour Hersh's article when it came out, and they are poking holes in the explanation that a group of 6 people on a yacht could have done it.

Meanwhile, Berlingske (who reported on Sy Hersh's article solely by referring to a statement by PM Mette Frederiksen to 'warn against believing in conspiracy theories') suddenly has no problem devoting a whole article to the sleuthing of a young bloke by the name of Oliver Alexander.

That guy jumped in early to deny Hersh's report, helpfully reporting that only ONE of the ships Hersh mentioned was in the area and actually it was only ever within 15km range of the pipeline.

Lol I remember while touring the Johnson Space Center last fall in Houston, in the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (that gigantic water tank they use for simulating space walk missions), the tour guide was pointing out a space on the far end of the pool that the DoD took over, and blacked out for some secret underwater training the NASA people were clueless about the details of. He did mention though they separated out that section of the pool so they could control the temperature of it and make it really cold (the main pool since its just for space training can be kept at a comfortable temperature for the divers).

I'm sure they do all kinds of underwater dive training there, but since this was not too long after the nordstream thing, me and my friend certainly gave each other a suspicious smirk when the tour guide was describing the DoD cold water secret dive training area, lmao.

It seems bizarre that a law that would probably be supported over here as a good transparency measure in politics is labeled very seriously problematic over there.. I guess the fear is that the evil government will use it to target and ban ngo's that they don't like?
