You should read some of the reviews from actual adults when it came out though.

It's been a couple years but I have watched Mario bros as an adult to confirm that it does in fact, kick rear end.

Oh, I'm sure, but look at how Carpenter's the Thing was received. Or Starship Troopers.

I wouldn't compare the Mario Bros movie to that, but I watched it last Christmas and it's still pretty amazing. Massively 90s, Dennis Hopper giving his genuine best, the absolute struggle of referencing stuff from the games but by no means making it actually look too much like the games cause that would be an unforgivable crime, I guess

The Super Mario Brothers movie is a timeless classic, plus it taught me the word “corpulent” at a very young age.

That last part is really underselling how far they went to stray away from the game. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to stay close to the source material, especially when your source material is Super Mario Bros. But when you take Goombas, a creature known for having a giant head and a small body, and make it have a giant body and a small head, you're clearly actively trying to do the opposite of what you were given. And that's not even getting into the whole "parallel evolution" plot, which was wildly unnecessary. But drat, did they ever think that "Mario Mario" joke was funny.

I'll give it this, though. It's better than Wing Commander.

I'm sorry to go over well tred ground, but I watched this trailer and I can't get a simple question out of my head. From a financial perspective, why do people keep giving Chris Pratt these huge roles? I mean, he's not Tom Cruise. I don't think there is a huge number of people who will go to a movie just because it stars Chris Pratt. Is there? Is he willing to work for less pay then others? Is it just Hollywood group think? I can't imagine it's just because that people think he's that talented. Like, he was really good on Parks and Rec, mostly good as Starlord and that's about it. What am I missing? I feel like I'm missing some basic understanding of human nature that explains Chris Pratt's success.

Woof. That looks terrible, both as a movie and from a visual standpoint. There seems to be no consistency as to how realistic or cartoony the world is at seemingly random points. The fire effect in particular looks very unfinished.
