BTW the atmosphere in there is equally odd, if you dine in. You sit down and are served at your table and they fuss over you and refill your drink and stuff. And while I was eating various people came in and the waiters greeted them with exchanges like "So how've you been doing?" "Better" and "4-way, 3-way, pepsi, right?" If they don't recognize you they ask if you need a menu, and you're expected to know all the little rituals like with the hot sauce and so on. People make a real routine of this apparently

IDK America there's lot of your regional specialities that I reckon are probably great comfort food but this one just looks like even at its best it could only be like an OK school dinner

The highlight of my year during Thanksgiving/Christmas season is a turkey sandwich made in slavish imitation of the way my high school cafeteria made it during deli week.

it's mostly because of the unlimited pickles they had

there was this cheap pizza place called Pizza By the Slice, kind of a knock off Sbarro i guess, that was in the food court of the mall where i used to kick college kids asses in street fighter.

i have such memories of that trash. i want dearly to taste it one more time. lmao

I am in fact nostalgic for rectangular school pizza, even though my high school switched to actual pizza at one point.

Also school chalupas, which was like a shallow taco bowl full of melted, then congealed, cheese and ground beef. I have never bothered looking up what an actual chalupa is.

Cinnamon as an addition to an otherwise properly-spiced chili con carne sounds okay, it would add some interesting notes.

I once accidentally added too much cinnamon to a butter chicken. The recipe had maybe half a teaspoon of cinnamon in the spice mix, but I mistranslated and put a tablespoon.

It was the most christmassy curry I’ve ever eaten.

I worked at a summer camp years ago and I absolutely put in a personal order for a case of rectangle pizza to bring home after. Then I saw how big the cases were and backed out. A standard apartment freezer cannot handle that much rectangular pizza.

Same, except it was at the dirt mall (going by the Mallrats definition), and it was a place called Vito’s. I’d hit the place up on my way to work and usually grab a slice or two that had been sitting under the heat lamp without even having it put back in the oven. Loved it, don’t care if it was garbage-tier pizza. But it’ll forever be a memory because that whole space is long gone now.

Also count me in for rectangular school pizza. I’d get some but I’d be the only one to eat it, so that’ll be relegated to the memory hole too.

A can of tex mex chili on pasta isn't not going to be awesome but you're looking at Greek pasta sauce.

I laughed at the presentation reveal but I'm usually down for some dessert jello. I never heard of woodruff, but when I looked it up some of the gelatin recipes suggested some typical berries as alternate flavors, so I don't know if) whether it's actually similar to them or is something more unique.

It basically the "green" flavour in Germany. If you got processed sweets that look green, then you expect the Waldmeister taste.
And it is the most popular flavour for Götterspeise.
