Wasn't there a goon who once got a huge plot of land out in the middle of a desert somewhere (maybe not Texas, but somewhere in the southwestern US) with plans to turn it into some sort of off-the-grid, self-sufficient commune? I don't remember how it came out, but like all goon projects it probably failed spectacularly. I'd like to imagine this turning out in much the same way.

The whole thing was a failure and some cruel weirdo shot a wild pig to death with a .45 for no loving reason.

Large Testicles posted:They should have just shortened it to "The study found if you were well off, white and not a kid, the pandemic wasn't that bad. The rest of ya'll got hosed tho and there will be lasting scars for decades to come." They shouldn't though because the study wasn't saying that. It was looking at how anxiety and depression symptoms were affected by the COVID pandemic primarily in high income countries (and probably specifically how people who were already getting some form of mental healthcare were affected, considering part of their selection criteria was "Studies had to report data from cohorts comprising at least 90% of the same participants between pre-covid-19 and pandemic periods or to use statistical methods to account for missing data.") I'm not in the field of psychology, but to me it seems like a study of limited use, not that that'll stop the media from reporting it as fact. But I imagine the proper way to use this study is in comparison to another review that focuses on the same symptoms in lower income populations during the same time period. Then you'd be able to make the kind of statement you're suggesting. And if it sounds silly that you'd need two additional studies to make a simple statement that makes sense to anyone who was paying attention, well that's how science works. And it's almost like in order for research scientists to support themselves and maintain their jobs, they have to continuously secure more funding for further studies so they can continue to get citations to their name.
