There's grift in the western MIC for sure, but the chances are pretty small that whatever general was placed in charge of modernizing the Leopards used the money to build himself a summer house and just glued on some cardboard to make it look like they were uparmored. Instead the tanks probably were modernized and have usable optics and other upgrade packages, and just cost way too much and the general got kickbacks and a cushy ceremonial position with a big paycheck from whoever made those packages. Would I rather be in a Leopard 2A6? Absolutely. Would I be happier in a Leopard 1A5 than a modernized T-62? Yes 100%.

Yeah maybe Putin is gripping the table because he has a debilitating neurological disease or whatever but also maybe that is just a thing he subconsciously does with his hands. I do all kinds of things with my hands during meetings and I'm not dying from Parkinsons or whatever. Also yeah the paper in Khadirov's hands is shaking a little bit, it could be because he is nervous but some people just have shaky hands. People are desperately overanalyzing the tiniest details in these videos hoping these guys are terrified or dying, and I hope they're right, but it is far more likely the explanations are completely banal and unimportant.

I think they're probably keeping their options open with carrots and sticks for both sides. It would be very convenient to China if the war ended and also a big feather for their cap if they got to play peacemaker, and the exact shape of the peace is probably a secondary consideration.
