yeah the channel I do high school PBP for for is free to stream if you're a customer of the cable company or 10 bucks for a 1-game pass, which is mostly just for occasional out-of-market family to see their kids' games and such

$3 a game gives you 10 games a month before it makes sense to buy the monthly thing, so that's way too low. $10 fits nicely into the "If you buy 1 game a week you should just sign up for the month" so that's why it costs that.

I've been pretty alright with paying 8 bucks to the WHL to stream the occasional thunderbirds game I don't feel like going to but still want to watch. They have the home and away radio crews and most of the video crews are decent at their job since everyone needs video for the scoreboards now. Stream seems more reliable than the average peacock game, too.

Can someone explain the significance of match of the day to me? Is it like a pre/post/halftime show for the big game or is it commentary with live look ins around the league? Is it like if hockey night in Canada didn’t have its studio show on Saturday during the games?

it's a highlight show of all of the Saturday games, a sort-of relic from the times when there were no live games on Saturdays. It's also the only show on free-to-air TV to have the highlights from the Premier League, so if you don't have satellite or digital TV it's the only way to see your team

Yeah this whole thing is pretty wild. MOTD is absolutely an institution in the UK given so many football games aren’t broadcast at all due to the 3pm nationwide blackout, and there’s a lot of people don’t subscribe to premium satellite/cable services for it. I can’t think of a time it’s ever been eviscerated like this, it’s a big deal. Whoever thought they could gently caress with Gary Lineker and get away with it… E: ah was writing anyway and didn’t see the previous two posts. Yeah despite it not being live footage or anything I think HNIC is a fair comparison with regards to the fame of the show. SNL in the US if it happened to air on public owned television.

Yeah, I’ve been listening to him from the start. I remember the absolute joy he had on the radio on the drive home from the game where they clinched the postseason for the first time in 2008. He was effortlessly charming, always found something to laugh about even in the worst blowouts, and had one hell of a partnership with Andy Freed. He’s going to be a hard one to live without. I’m so sad he didn’t get a World Series ring, but at least he got to be there for two tries at it. Interesting broadcasting experiment happening tonight. The Capitals / Rangers game on ESPN will be simulcast as an animated game over on Disney Channel and Disney+. It’s going to use real-time player and puck tracking technology. Kind of a huh from me but a neat tech demo.
