They like to dump canned whole tomatoes in a bowl and then smash them by sticking their hands in the bowl and smushing them. I find that extremely bizarre, possibly because I own a blender. Also I don't like tomato seeds, they have no flavor and they are unpleasant so I put my tomatoes through the Vitamix and then strain the result to get rid of the seeds.

The skins are an important distinction for tomato sauce i suppose. I use an immersion blender for fresh tomato sauce after some time in the pressure cooker
