A long time ago I would have thought a lot like you but actually spending a lot of time working on, driving, and crawling all around inside and out of supercars I've gained a much greater appreciation of them.

I literally haven't said a word about the Purosangue until now. The only ppl stomping their feet like children are the ones falling over themselves saying how stupid it looks. I don't care what it looks like. I care that its got a 700hp v12, is still using the stupid ptu front drive gearbox hanging off the front of the engine that first came out on the FF, and apparently some trick new suspension that does away with anti-roll bars. It's bonkers and dumb as gently caress. And that's cool imo. But by trying to score points about it looking like a much cheaper car, are you laughing at the car or the ppl who have bought one? Cuz the former is lame. I'm fine with the latter

I also don't care that I'll never be able to afford one. Ferrari ownership is not something I aspire to

I mean by that logic, a GE Dash-9 has 4400 horsepower out of a Turbo V16 is much cooler than that Ferrari.

Ok. Checks out.

It's because Ferraris are basically bro-trucks for hedge fund managers and Ferrari has been catering to that audience.

There's that (car jewellery for rich assholes) but for me I more or less just don't give a poo poo about newer Ferrari as there's not much that is actually "special" or insane about them and hasn't been for a long while. The shine was lost on me the moment I saw just how parts bin they really were - that comment about begin WTF'ed seeing Lancia Beta parts is literal, I recognized the switches and water bladder.

Now dont get me wrong I'll do .... things..... to drive a F40 and if I had the money no brainer I would find a way to own one and there's a bunch of older Ferraris I also love. The new ones? I wouldn't say I hate them other than the Ferrari Prolapse or whatever the gently caress the SUV is called, I just don't give a drat about them. Again, I've yet to see anyone say they hate Ferraris in this thread recently. I think plenty of people including me have stated their feelings about the kind of person who is a modern Ferrari customer, i.e. the target market they are chasing. But it seems you haven't quite been able to make the distinction between those things.

The 456 and 550 were so, so beautiful. The high point in (from what I can gather) driveable, useable high-end European GTs. Understated class with V12 power.

Or that Aussies made a sport turning a true rarity - a decent driving SUV - into one and done 400Kw sleepers that would eat the Ferrari Prolapse alive.

Ew.

Anyway moving along......

The other decent driving SUV is actually bloody good offroad, goes actual hard around a track, tows the race car or the horse float and while you could say a Porsche Cayenne is also a status kiddie hauler it's undeniably a Good Thing which is loving rare as gently caress for a CUV or SUV. I still think about this one time when a SUV driver let me turn right into stationary traffic in front of them from a sidestreet with a stop sign onto a busier road during afternoon commute traffic. They could have easily pulled forward into the "KEEP CLEAR" section and left me sitting there and they did not. It was at least 10 years ago and I still remember it because generally SUV drivers are complete twats.

Bad drivers have always existed, but I think the same hyper-individualism and ego-stroking that gave birth to the "rugged outdoors independent REAL WORK safety unstoppable tank" image of SUVs has resulted in shittier behavior on the roads.

Driving like an idiot in a 60hp hatchback is one thing, doing the same in a giant heavy 300+hp SUV with bad visibility is something else entirely. Physics will always catch up to you.

I daily drive a plug in Prius but I do like having the RAV4 for occasional 4wd snow needs and that its able to tow a light 5x10' trailer. I found that this made it far more capable and useful for our needs vs the old truck I used to have. Not generally an SUV fan in general but I do like having a small one for decent internal storage capacity vs a large sedan for example. I suppose a station wagon would be just as good and to me its not much different from a minivan other than its smaller which is fine since Im not using it to haul around multiple kids with carseats etc anyway.

Bad drivers have always existed, but for a while (later 70's to mid 00's or so) cars weren't as large, so it was less obvious when your lane was being crowded by someone. Also cell phones give way more people an excuse not to pay attention to the road. That's my opinion on it anyway.

Heh. Fair point.

Jokes aside, I feel less bad driving a 4cyl SUV around at least. If Toyota made a decent wagon that was actually possible to find I'd happily just use that instead. No complaints for the RAV4 (2018) so far though. It's very no frills and just soldiers along without issue.
