You're delusional. Buffalo has had, what feels like, a month to 6 weeks to close that gap and instead they're now behind Florida and mired in lower mid table with Washington, Ottawa, and Detroit having failed to actually close the gap. In fact I am fairly certain Buffalo's point% has fallen since the last time I said 'Won't happen' and their gap to the wild card is even wider.

I dunno what's wrong with just letting Sabres fans continue to entertain pleasant dreams in March. In fact Pens fans should be extra sympathetic to the sensation, we all do the exact same thing except our delusions are about our team winning the Cup rather than making the playoffs.

I wasn’t just talking about Buffalo, Florida could theoretically overtake NYI. Anyway Buffalo almost certainly will miss after going 4-5-1 in their last ten.

Edit: if they somehow went on an insane tear and won like seven in a row they might make it. I say seven because that would include beating the Islanders next Saturday. Losing that game would all but guarantee they miss.

The Pens are in no way in the clear yet, it is very possible they have another 8 game stretch of totally forgetting how to ice hockey in them and that could put them in real trouble. And if Crosby or Letang gets hurt then :rip:

In world news, it should be a rule that all D pairings must be spoken/written as portmeanteaus. Dumouletang. Petrysson. Jowehdel. My post a couple pages ago should have been about how awful Nurseci are to watch.

Carolina is still quite capable of winning the division and taking a round or two, certainly buy them less against whoever comes out of the Atlantic or even vs NJ/NYR should they get there though.

Dave Hakstol is probably the favorite for coach of the year.

Edit: Carter's -4 is with 5:48 of 5v5 ice time btw and 6:13 at evens. Top notch work. Tristan Jarry gets an honorable mention as well for letting in 4 goals on like .5 expected and now posting a .850 and huge lump of -GSAA since his return from injury. This team rules. BONUS BONUS POINTS for the Pens scoring 4 goals tonight with 0 points for anyone outside the top 6. A very well constructed team.

Jarry is extremely Not Right and really should not be playing. It's inevitable that they're going to re-sign him but if they keep playing him when he's obviously still injured they risk sending him down the Matt Murray dark road.

Pretty surprised they weren't in on Quick tbh, they have to be aware of Jarry's injury troubles and DeSmith's sucking troubles.

I’m pretty sure Jarry is the “best” goalie in the upcoming free agent crop so I’m really curious how teams approach him. I thought he would price himself out of Pittsburgh and they’d have to try to trade for Demko or something, but now I really don’t know how it’ll turn it.

Yeah it's been years since Jarry was healthy for like 4 straight months and he's been a medical disaster for the past year. The indicators going forward aren't good. I would not pay him no-doubt #1 goalie money (but the Penguins will, as with so many of their "decisions" of late they've pretty much painted themselves into the corner already).

The Canucks aren't going to trade Demko. Aquilini is delusional. And if Aquilini died tomorrow and they did trade him, there are probably 10 teams that would want him and would outbid the Penguins for him.

They actually think this is a good thing. They think they're "learning to play the right way" and that this isn't just a statistical aberration brought about by the fact that their competitors sold when they bought and they have no pressure on them. What a stupid organization. Man what a world we might have lived in if Bruce There It Is never happened.

If Ovechkin is out again tonight it's almost a certainty Buffalo will win. Ovechkin hasn't had the best year but the team is a lifeless husk without him on the ice. I think they said they were 1-9-0 without him the past 2 seasons. And the power play is a complete joke when he's not there.
