My casualty figures were exaggerated I'm sure but now Russia's on its second wave of mobilization and the previous waves of mobiks/initial invasion force clearly got liquidated along the line so its not that exaggerated.

1:5 ratio is pretty standard for cracking nuts (fortified defensive areas) of course Russia is not losing those men "efficiently" for lack of a better term. Meters gained to losses are very bad for Russia. Because they have to keep losing that 1:5 for the foreseeable few weeks which is 1000 per day at this point.

I think there is a very large amount of conjecture, guess work, and drawing conclusions from really vague sources like Ursula Von Der Leye's speech where she had likely mis-spoken and announced 100k Ukrainian combat deaths by December, or as I saw online last night, an allegedly reliable Youtube channel with more than a million subscribers trying to extrapolate real Russian losses from the bullshit casualty figures the Kremlin announced last April (Assuming they had been honest, announced 7k deaths across 3 months, making 28k for the year....) It's probably a lot more useful to look at the actions both sides are taking to replenish, replace, and refit. Looking at that, Russia are at the very least taking crippling losses in equipment and infantry, and formations that were professional manoeuvre and combined arms trained and equipped are now reconstituted with mobilised (conscripted) light infantry. A big unknown element are losses through contracts ending (how effective are the Russians at stoploss), desertion, and malingering from both sides. You could easily have wastage on the Russian side that meets or exceeds battlefield fatalities. I suspect you will have a not inconsiderable number of Ukrainian soldiers who have also decided that this war isn't for them, but I would wager it's a much smaller portion.

Ukraine is still picky who they recruit vs. what's been said above. Bakhmut turned into a political shitfest against all warnings. They're not trading there like they used to, and god help the guys that have to be pulled out over the completely muddy dirtroads when it gets worse.
