Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!
Only saw the highlights, but Ingles being a 4th playmakers that can do picknrolls with Lopez seems like a hard match-up for teams.

Giannis elbowed Torrey Craig so hard he knocked one of his teeth out last night.

Obviously he was not called for a foul and with the suns current personnel I don’t expect them to shoot a ton of free throws but man does it suck to watch this matchup!

I'm not saying the injury is fake or anything but it's wild to me that it took getting rear ended by a semi on an icy highway for KAT to even miss the first game of his career and now he's missing like 50 games with something as mild sounding as "calf strain"

Per the NHS, a grade III calf strain is:

quote:

A severe tear where most of the muscle fibers are torn and can cause a complete rupture of the muscle
(When I looked earlier online, various sources have the threshold for Grade III vs Grade II as being anywhere from 50%+ tear being Grade III to Grade III not starting until 90% torn)

From his past comments, it sounds like there was ambiguity in the days after around if it was grade II (4-8 week recovery) or grade III (months, possible surgery). So it was more a question of "how badly did he tear his calf?"

Also Jonny Athletic dove in to how great Slo Mo has been for the Wolves today, and ended with the note that he could play the point in a supersized lineup. My Ant/Jaden/Slomo/KAT/Rudy dream lives!

"Strain" means tear and KAT said it was a Grade 3 which probably means a almost complete tear.

When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.
Teams are being much more careful with calf strains now. Unclear of when the change happened but this is consistent with the time missed in recent years.

I feel like the change happened, oh, like, in game 5 of the 2019 Finals.* I'm glad they've been playing it safe with KAT.

*yes I also think it was happening before that, but that's definitely the case to point at

I also think with KAT it was unclear at first how bad it was, and then my guess is he didn't want the team to do a big gloomy "KAT is out for months" so they just kinda left it. A bunch of people are upset they didn't give better updates but I kinda get someone not really wanting a bunch of media and people up in his business.

He's been on the sideline for almost every game so it's not like he's somewhere pouting or anything. It's a legit injury.

I actually remember learned doctors in this thread saying he tore it in round two and they just weren't being honest about it

edit: for clarity - people were saying that before he came back for game 5, and then after it happened i think we were all just mostly sad

Speaking of injuries, a little Nuggets Talk

Nugs are Not doing great, losing four in a row. Jamal Murray has been awful, and is clearly playing hurt; he had a period where he had most of his quickness and was putting up bubble Murray numbers, but he hurt his other knee and is trying to grit through it. He was questionable against the Raptors, then played 40 minutes in a loss, putting up 14 points on 18 shots. He should've been shut down a week ago, there's no reason to push a guy who's still recovering from injury this hard with the one seed all but locked up. And his bad play is a big part of why they're losing anyway!

As great as he can play, he's sometimes clearly a Kobe Guy in a bad way. Breaking off the play to do turn around midrange fadeaways with 12 left in the shot clock without Jokic getting involved in the play. And without him being able to take advantage of his quickness, he's going to those bad shots nearly every time. Cut it out Jamal.

The big roster moves to improve the Nuggets bench (Reggie Jackson and Thomas Bryant) have been a disaster so far. They were both DNP-CD in the last game, where, again, Jamal played 40 minutes. With Reggie struggling this much, there's no backup for Jamal. Bruce Brown is a good player but he's incredibly miscast when they run him at PG. FVV picking his pocket was a great example of that.

I've been rolling my eyes all year when people complain about Michael Malone, but I'm genuinely confused with a lot of what's going on.

Nugs could use a young energetic player for those bench minutes. Maybe a PG.

I think this is supposition based on trends in rehab by professional teams (who don't report data or publish many articles on their findings).

Calf strain is a generic term. There's more than one muscle in the calf. There's a small amount of data that says some calf muscles are more likely to be associated with worse injuries down the road than others. Not enough data to establish care based guidelines.

I swear unless i remember wrong this injury ended Aminu's career. I mean, he was a nobody, but he started a whole bunch of games for the Blazers. Then he get's signed by the Magic and something like 15 games in he gets this very mild sounding injury. Never is the same. Never really played for the Magic again, not really and the two teams he was traded to didn't play him either.

Looking back on it it's nothing compared to the Isaac fiasco but at the time i was wondering why did they make it seem so mild.

Edit, it was a torn meniscus. I did remember wrong.
