It's surprisingly not terrible to watch. I thought it was going to be an AR thing only on two players. But it's very cool to have the entire roster and rink be animated like that

Seems sluggish to be honest, they look like they're on international ice. At least they don't have that much advertising minus strangely the Nintendo Switch that hasn't gotten a NHL game since 2K11 on the Wii

Plus it's caps v rags so it's as appealing as a enema to me

If anyone sees this and can check, is ESPN+ down?

Like everything loads in on the page but when you go to pick any movie, live sports, or video it won't load at all. God ESPN+ sucks rear end

I was just able to load up an NCAA baseball game just now. I did have some ESPN issues a week ago where my account was temporarily deactivated.

Looks like it was a temp outage. I saw some people on twitter complaining. Was out for like 15 minutes or so.

It seems like ESPN is putting more things on ESPN+ these days, even things that would be on their regular cable broadcast. I don't have ESPN, but I've been able to stream games on ESPN+ that said they were going to be on ESPN2. Sometimes it'll say ESPN3, which I didn't think existed, and those are also games I've been able to watch on +. I'm not sure if ESPN is gauging interest right now or what.

It works out good for me as I'm out of market for my "home" team so I basically get to watch every Ballys Sports NHL game on ESPN+. However, when I watch in browser which is how I watch the majority of games ESPN+ has a really bad habit of the stream timing out/crapping out when they switch from a commercial break to the return to game/live action. It happens like 50 percent of the time and its really frustrating.

If anyone knows of a DNS service that works well with ESPN+ I’d love to know it. My one seems to work seemingly when my home team are playing away games only when I tried last year. I hate giving Bally my money, but at least it won’t be for much longer.

I think this is exactly what it is. Disney has been quietly exploring the idea of spinning off or outright selling ESPN for the past year or so. If they can prove that ESPN+ is viable, that would boost the overall ESPN portfolio value in a sale.

ESPN3 is what they used to call their online stuff before ESPN+. I think it only exists in name at this point because of pre-existing contracts.

well that's true yeah, but also it's a 9 seed vs a 16 where maybe 10 people on planet earth could identify where one school is even located. This was always going to get bottom TV billing.

Legally they're fine but Discovery wouldn't be happy if advertisers complained. It's not like the network is relevant 99% of the time though.

There are apparently 4000 layoffs planned across the company. I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN takes a major hit

There's that rumor that Disney might be looking to spin off or shop ESPN around, so cutting salaries and overhead before that makes sense.

Back when documentary channels were, you know, documentary channels, I once saw a guy's head explode in a documentary about FARC. Footage of them raiding a place and this guy catches a burst right in the head. It was a huge :stonk: moment for 12 year old me. Definitely not something you'd see on regular TV.

When I was barely a teen, while I was eating steak & potatoes in my bedroom (parents weren't big on family dinner table meals) I was channel surfing and went past TLC right as their show about surgery - which literally just showed what surgeries looked like - was smack in the middle of a dude getting his balls opened up during a vasectomy.

I went upstairs and put my dinner n the fridge.

They say poo poo at least once a week on all elite wrestling and that airs on two turner stations.

I’ve also seen bare tit on turner classic movies at 7pm on a Saturday. You can show hardcore porn on basic cable, it’s just that no company would ever carry that station.

Probably. They have been bleeding money from D+, and most of their recent movies have been flops. There are also rumors that they were heavily tied into FTX and lost money in that as well. Chapek got canned as a sacrificial lamb, but they brought back Iger who started all the things that got them in trouble in the first place

Investors have been calling for them to unload ESPN as an asset because there are real questions about how long it's sustainable

Everyone is saying in the NBA about how the new broadcast deal is going to inject a ton of money into the league but I'm wondering if it actually will, the only place I think of that might be desperate enough to pay huge would be NBC as they don't have a weekly crown jewel thing. If NBC Sports still existed, I'd be more inclined to think so.

It extremely will.

Once again, Live sports/events is the only thing that draws.

There is a reason NBC wants back in on the NBA.

If the NBA doesn't get paid it means that the world is in such a bad economic state that like the advertising industry has collapsed. Maybe it'll happen someday but the NBA is going to be one the last things to go.
