Dr Z Zwreck, about 2 grand worth of strymon, and the guy on the other side of the stage had a Tone King imperial with about 20 vintage pedals. Pretty sure they actually paid their band though

Yeah some of those churches pay really well. A buddy of mine was a mercenary soundguy at various churches in Colorado Springs and he made like 300 bucks a service

The local NPR station is at the university I work at and they were giving away a bunch of random old equipment to other departments because you have to do that before you just throw it away. I tried to justify why I needed a vintage record player, a bunch of mixers, and some shelf speakers for auditory neuroscience and the jerks at facilities didn't let me snag them .

the stupid music poo poo is that i had a kitchen accident last month and cut the gently caress out of my left forefinger and haven't been able to play guitar at all

my father suggested it's the perfect time to learn slide but idk if slide is anything I'd ever want to play

the stitches have been out for about two weeks, but the fingertip is still extremely tender and missing the top layer of skin

it's going to suck when I finally pick it up again

I occasionally plug my guitars in to make sure the electronics still work.

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
Just plug your guitar into a 5150, then the 5150's speaker out into the input of another 5150.

He's mentioned doing church band stuff so yeah he is. YouTuber guitarists seem to be either RAR METAL or churchy boys. It's fucken weird.

60 Cycle Hum also went down the same road as pretty much every channel that starts out reviewing cheap stuff. You start reviewing whatever you have, maybe buy some cheap things. Then some companies might send you cheap pedals to review, then they slowly go up in value as the channel gets bigger. Eventually you start just reviewing whatever is sent to you, usually artisan guitars and handbuilt amps.

I've seen this happen with so many channels and it's weird but also hey, if y'all want free poo poo, that's the ticket. Just do good camera and mic work and you're golden.

It'll be fine. If history has shown us anything, it's that mauling your fretting in an accident will lead to excellence as a jazz guitarist or you'll invent a heavy new genre of rock.

I was really confused when I realized how large the worship guitarist YouTube population was, did not realize there was any money in that or that a church service guitarist need anything beyond like an amp and a Keeley caverns. All those hoes got like whole Strymon boards it seems like overkill??

Ryan seems cool at least, he's made videos specifically about being honest about free stuff and properly disclosing sponsorships. He repaints brand new expensive guitars ugly sparkly yellow which is funny

As I understand it, American churches are basically high budget entertainment centers, so the big ones actually pay a decent wage to musicians to work at a pretty reasonable hour with few schedule conflicts in a fixed location. It's basically a dream job if you don't mind (or like) the Jesus and hellfire bits. And what does a guitarist do with income? Buy gear!

I live in the middle of nowhere in a flyover state and I had to attend a baptism at one of the huge churches out here and this place in the middle of nowhere had a full band (apparently with an ex Bon Jovi bass player), stage, sound system, isolation booth for the drums. Guitar players had massive pedal boards.

Maybe the worst music I’ve heard in my life. Like a Bon Jovi cover band that decided to play their originals.

Edit: I should point out these giant churches are a recent development out here, like in the last 10 years.

I ripped off a callous when recording, picked up some software synths and my ancient midi keyboard, and by the time I healed had four songs written for my first synthpunk album. Highly recommended, there are thousands of freeware synths and some are actually really good.
