G’raha is ok now. I was not a fan of post Exarch ShB G’raha, but thankfully the writers have dialed his annoying dog/crush/hero worship aspect back a bit. But I really hope he takes a backseat for a while moving forward. At least in the MSQ, he can still be involved in side content. Same with the twins, they’re cool and all but I’m glad they’re not major players in the current story and didn’t appear at all until 6.3.

i stand by my take that g'raha would be substantially more likable all-around if you made basically zero changes at all except letting the exarch actually be an old man and not "g'raha but he's sort of older but mostly frozen in time". i think letting him be Actually Old would've made ShB a lot more interesting (particularly when he's like, musing about the past or his old heroes), and would do a lot more to clearly distinguish the crystal exarch from g'raha tia, a much younger man with much less life experience who happens to have the exarch's memories. like the thavnair scene doesn't hit nearly as well as it could imo, in part because there's so much direct continuity from the exarch to g'raha visually and auditorily (bailey doesn't play them particularly different or anything) that the return of Exarch Mode is just kinda like, oh right, this man used to be a mayor, and not like, how strange to see this 24 year old suddenly start comporting himself like a 1000 year old man. his return at the end of 5.3 feels a lot more like "wow our best friend, the crystal exarch, is back" when it should honestly be a little more like ezri and jadzia dax, maybe. the exarch even just recorded a message that was like "hey, younger me. this is me dying, like i'm actually dead, this is the end of memory, full stop. i hope u have a good time tho!!!" and everyone was just like wow, g'raha tia, with whom we've adventured a whole bunch already, is back! glad you made the trip from the first successfully.

e: to be clear i think the above is something the writing is kind of going for at points, it's just not something the visuals or the performance portray with particular clarity, imo.

He's just a chill person and wants to have a good time going on adventures and doesn't care if he's tank, dps, or healer, and he most certainly paid real life U.S. dollars to unlock a custom ear-twitch emote. He gets me.

BUt he's not different at all. Even after all the time his plan, the entire goal of the people that aided him, was entirely rooted in that childish boyhood idolization. They the exact same character.

G'raha has problems because he's trapped in the Schrodinger's Catboy of romantic indeterminacy, where the writing leaves it ambiguous whether you're in a relationship with him or not, but it's not really believable that the Warrior of Light would keep him hanging this long.

What I'm saying is that after Endwalker you should be able to start romance sidequests.

Unless they do something permanent with Zero it seems like they're gearing up for her to be important later on (especially given that I suspect 7.0 is going to lean pretty heavily into the void and she's important) and we continue to gain new members, so they basically have to keep coming up with reasons why certain characters are/aren't always available and around.

Who is this man when he's not fawning over us? I don't think he has, like... hobbies, or goals anymore. He was interesting as the Crystal Exarch, but he REALLY doesn't want to go back to being that... without really replacing that with anything. i do not think graha is written in a romantic way, and i don't really think they intend for you to interpret his interactions with the WoL as romantic? I think if you interpret it that way you're choosing to, i never really got that subtext from anything. I mean we did basically singlehandedly save his entire world and also his life so if anything I read it as he's extremely thankful and we're the only reason he and the world he worked for a century to create/save is still around. reads a lot more like he has an unspoken life debt to us, which is annoying for different reasons but i don't think he's written that way. i think if you asked graha who his hero was, he would say it's the wol without even hesitating

And on my end thanks to my own thoughts about the Viera lifestyle/perception, my Warrior of Light's personal characterisation within the choices given, and personal interests. I'm of the opinion that Hanayuki Mikazuchi whilst not necessarily romantically entangled, has had trysts with Y'shtola, Thancred, Urianger and G'raha. Although not for anything more than a good time between friends.

Estinien more common than anyone else though, because Estinien is a combat freak and so is Hanayuki.

But again, partially to do with my thoughts to how Viera, particularly traditionally minded ones, might view such engagements.

Which also reminds me how happy I was with the latest custom delivery NPC questline having a great moment of acknowledging if you are playing as a male Viera you get a full on invitation to come into the female Viis Village for a proper good time with all the ladies when Anden's sister flirts with you and calls you a much better potential catch. Literally don't be a stranger is almost said verbatim because they haven't seen a male Viis since the flood of light and they have a similar system of periodic mating as the Source Viera.

It's less that I don't know what he's doing and more that, when he's around in the MSQ, it feels like his main character attribute is "simping for the WoL" more than any other trait.

Probably unlikely in a game where you can straight up get married. A quasi-sorta romantic relationship that you, the player, can either ignore or lean into is about as strong as they are going to write.

This is another argument for Lala Exarch, IMHO: under the hood, he can just wear a dwarf helmet. You know, for deep cover.

And under that... it's gotta be Wedge, right? Immortalized cyborg Wedge? Or I guess the regular one got unstuck in time again.

I think people overblow G'raha's simping a little. Like yeah he idolizes the hell out of you but it's always come across as like "dude like your were my inspiration to become an adventurer". It's no less silly than Alisae apparently spending a majority of her time in The First before you arrive just talking about how cool you are non-stop. She just hides it and plays it off a bit better.

Then again in this latest patch G'raha answers the phone to you calling and then immediately crashes into the floor tripping over poo poo in excitement so maybe it's not overblown lol.
