Tenby has been invaded by rats as big as cats. That sounds like a good way of getting the other smaller rodents to leave.

Can confirm this seems to have worked for me. A decade watching him try and fail to catch ants but when some mice turned up he was all over the problem. A couple of instances of me coming downstairs in the morning, a dead mouse lying on its back and Fang just staring at it like 'I dare you to move again'.

Anyone who suggests cats as a humane solution to a rodent infestation has not seen the corpse of a pregnant mouse at the end of a 3m trail of blood and a proud kitty sat on the other end. They're effective, mind you, but they're about as humane as the plod.

Or our rabbit, who was wild born (probably a cross with an escaped pet, by her colour) and when she was tiny was dragged into someone's house by a cat. Thankfully it thought its humans were well trained enough to have a go at hunting nearly unharmed prey, or she'd have been like that mouse. She's nearly five years old now and still gets panicked by any sudden movement.

We had a rat try to scoot through our back garden one afternoon and our elderly terrier killed it in an eyeblink and then had to be consoled because she believed biting was bad and she had done the Bad Thing.
