I think it was Injustice or Injustice 2, where you had to beat Poison Ivy a bunch to unlock event rewards shortly after her and Harley Quinn becoming a couple was gaining mainstream attention

They even have Green Arrow literally admit to being an old school left winger and say that a government would be deeply stupid not to have counters to the growing power and membership of the small army of superhumans in the sky. Escalation is even a theme, as Grodd forms the Legion of Doom specifically because the Justice League's coordination and response has made it near impossible for supervillains to operate alone anymore.

The ending of that arc sadly completely drops the ball on that front. I mean, the fight versus Brianiac-Luthor is awesome, but theme-wise it makes no sense and it never solves anything but some very vague notions of structural change.

Pretty sure some relative had the first one in their bathroom, it seems familiar. Kinda miss bathroom reading materials they could be fun, but with phones and tablets that went away. Hard to believe but people could make a living cranking out this poo poo. Fake edit: wrote the above while pooping (probably why I remembered the book) then got up and noticed there’s a magazine basket on my own john I forgot about. Newest thing is a 2021 New Yorker.
