I wouldn't be confident of corbyn winning but it seems quite possible they split the vote and someone else gets in.

Either way starmer wins because he's out of the party and potentially out of government which is all he cares about.

that was mark reckless and he won by campaigning against himself and his leadership, it was hilarious

he could split his vote 52/48 and still win, his majority is 49% and 2019 was his worst result in a long time. There's absolutely no path for a win that doesn't involve the majority of labour voters sticking to the party and turning out for a rando they don't know anywhere near as well. I don't think for a second labour think they have a prayer, they're just setting up to call everyone in islington a bigot and make a shocked face

I suppose the most funny outcome would be starmer pissing away labour's lead and corbyn winning his seat still.

I don't suppose there's been much polling because we don't really do much constituency polling, but a relevant example would be Ken Livingston running as an indepenedent to be London Mayor after Blair et al decided he couldn't & put forward Frank Dobson instead. Livingston won, obviously. Another example that comes to mind is the Falkirk West MP Dennis Canavan. He'd been an MP for 25 years & in that time he'd been a big supporter of Scottish devolution & so when the Scottish Parliament opened he wanted to run for it, but Labour parachuted in some nobody because Canavan was in the Socialist Campaign Group & I guess they didn't want that sort at Holyrood (despite him having the support of 95% of his constituency party). So he said gently caress it & ran as an independent, winning with over 55% of the vote. Like Corbyn, Canavan was a popular long-term MP.

So yeah, it's entirely feasible he'd win. The last time he polled under 50% was 1983, when he wasn't an established MP yet, the Tories won a landslide on the back of the Falklands, AND the SDP split plus the merging of 2 Islington constituencies meant he ended up facing 2 sitting MPs, Michael O'Halloran (Islington North) & John Grant (Islington West)

Constituency-level polling is rarely done for cost reasons and even if it is it's never published. All the "Johnson to lose seat says latest poll" stuff is taken from national level polling that's modelled to a specific constituency (using vote swings or demographics depending on the complexity). Islington North might well be worth it for labour to poll as an internal information exercise, but I can't imagine it'd be worth publishing since a) it shows they're worried enough to commission bespoke polling and b) it'd only be worth publishing if it shows Corbyn being utterly humiliated

When we first moved into that office about 7 years ago we used to regularly get vox-popped by BBC staff while we were outside for a smoke break, but none of our opinions ever made it onto BBC Newsline or Radio Ulster. These days they avoid anyone on the street there and tend to get their street opinions outside the Post Office on High Street mid-afternoon, because people using the post office at 3pm on a weekday have their finger on the pulse of modern politics.

As mentioned, not a head of state, merely the head of a devolved government, and "elected" in the sense that an internal leadership election among members of his party selected him as the candidate.

He's...okay...ish? The SNP as a party under his predecessor's leadership was a pretty bog-standard social democratic party in every sense of what that means in 21st century Europe--progressive rhetoric and a general commitment not to make things worse while shying away from anything that could be considered even slightly radical on policy, with the added benefit in the SNP's case that they can blame their failure to push actual left-wing reforms on the fact that they don't have full fiscal independence from the UK. But to their credit the SNP have actually navigated the recent public sector strikes markedly better than the Tories, managing to avert strikes in Scotland by actually negotiating with unions instead of trying to starve them out, and they burned a hell of a lot of political capital getting through the Gender Recognition Act because it was the right thing to do.

Yousaf was the continuity candidate following from the previous leader Nicola Sturgeon, so under his leadership we can expect the SNP not to change very much, I think. His election also means the survival of the Green-SNP coalition in the Scottish Parliament, which would likely have collapsed otherwise. Many were worried the election of either of the other two candidates would have seen the SNP lurch to the right.

As for the man himself, he has something of a reputation for being irritable and humourless--people who disliked Stugeon won't feel differently about him, and people who liked Sturgeon, so far as I have seen, don't find him to be charismatic or straight-talking. It wasn't uncommon for people during the race to openly despair that Humza would have been their last choice for leader until they saw who was running against him.

Also, I haven't bothered to check but surely Bosnia and Albania have had a muslim head of State, and that's before considering if Turkey counts. Or if the Ottoman Empire or any of the muslim states in Italy or Spain pre-1500 count.

There's console + no games for £479 https://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-9395003-5-Console/dp/B08H95Y452

Or for £589 you can get it with God of War Ragnarok and CoD:MW II 2 https://ao.com/product/p5hehwkit61470-playstation-console-white-95792-291.aspx

from the same site you can also get it £4 cheaper, but you get Hogwarts Legacy instead of CoD II 2, which, :whitewater:

You can get them from Sony directly- I've got a controller from them when the purple ones where out of stock everywhere and they deliver quickly.

They doing a PS5 with either God of War: Ragnarok, Modern Warfare or FIFA at the moment for £539
The Blu-ray Disk-Consoles on their own are the standard RRP of £479 or £529 (With an extra controller):
