Yep most likely. We’ll see. If they want to fire me I’ll gladly take the extra week between gigs.

I hate that my gut reaction was to use such a sexist term and I regret that, but my god I could not believe what I was hearing.

Semantically, "you" is both singular and plural, though syntactically it is always plural. It always takes a verb form that originally marked the word as plural.

Also, there is no plural when the context is an argument with an individual rather than a group. Somfin shouldn't put words in my mouth.

You fuckin’ own, friend. gently caress that lady, she won’t do poo poo because that would mean her transphobic poo poo rolls right out (and because somebody referring to a trans person as “it” is passive as gently caress and means they don’t have the guts to do anything anyways)

Yeah, it’s not a great word to use, but the irony in instantly one-upping her in the discrimination Olympics makes it’s own point after she diet slurred a trans-person.

Now you’ve got room to say:

“Oh, did that upset you? Wonder how the trans person you just referred to as a loving object feels?”

I called a VP a "Cowardly, embezzling shitstain" to his face once, and it took them 3 months to "lay me off".

In my defence, he was a coward, and he was directly embezzling from the company by sending contracts to his own company.

He's dead now. Nothing of value was lost.

Good for you App13 for calling out bullshit.

That would be an unmitigated disaster as this poo poo is all about customer relationships and I'm good with being either the good guy or the bad guy, but I can't be both at the same time. We are a team and I literally cannot do my job without the air support.

Trying to resolve L2 issues at client site and boy do these Unifi Mesh APs just love to start meshing with one another for seemingly no reason and create nasty loops. size of house matters less than layout and obstructions

I have to do two in order to get a solid signal in my bedroom because the kitchen and bathroom interrupt the direct line

Very true, I ended up having to do powerline adapters in a bunch of places in an old rental because most of the walls had plaster in them. Absolute madness.

Anyone here ever done a MoCA setup for their home? I'm eventually looking into doing the least amount of wireless as possible once the future missus and I have a proper house.

Hidalgo Co. job interview update: Didn't get the job (yay!), but also my old contracting company contacted me through the whole drat weekend to try and get me to do call center work for Medicaid for the State of Louisiana, I politely declined since it wouldn't help me in the long run of actually gaining any meaningful IT/Cybersecurity working experience.

I've done both MoCA and Powerline in my last house. Both worked just fine. I didn't have the fancy gigabit MoCA adapters though so powerline had more throughput.

On the subject of six figgies I got a bit of a thing to think about. Someone tell me I'm a moron please.

I'm currently public sector - a university in Canada. Decent wage, great benefits, union. The security is great - I won't be fired for dumb reasons. BUT the workload is like...non existent. I'm sapping up tuition fees and taxpayer money and I'm not doing very much, because my team lead is an old dude who has been here for 30 years and he won't let go of anything.

SO a fully remote job for a US VC-backed (Y Combinator specifically) company has opened up. It looks like a bunch of fun and I've been given some stuff to do to prove my worthiness for consideration. The salary starts at 120k US. The "assignment" looks like a lot of fun and I want to go through with it anyway.

Do we give up 5 figures in the public sector to go and and do 6 figures in a firm that is remote-first, contract-only, VC funded, no benefits etc?

If you have a two storey home with a basement and an attic space, and drywall internal walls then I’d wire the whole thing rather than messing with MoCA. Once fibre goes in it looks like ISPs are rushing to deliver faster than 1Gbps services (someone here in London currently has a promotion for 3Gbps symmetric for £49/month) so pulling new cable in means you can get to 10Gbps over Cat6 fairly cheaply at the sorts of lengths used in a house.

Yup. This is my issue. Like I've said before, I'm hesitant to share much about my personal life, including things about where I live, what my house is like, etc.

Depends a lot on how old you are and what you want to do with the rest of your career.

At over 40, I would take the stability and the benefits. 20 years younger? Take the opportunity to learn some new skills and set a 6-figure salary baseline for future jobs.
