I'll finally post this video. https://youtu.be/VXIrSTMgJ9s In short, older motion blur techniques give the motion blur a bad rep. You will not see a necessary number of FPS in games for your eyes to perceive them in motion. Camera motion blur is still often wonky and when people say they don't like motion blur they often don't realize per-object motion blur exists and many games managed to make it look great.

The first thing a PC game should display when first run is the shortlist of mostly y/n toggles. Subtitles maybe subtitle/audio language? Don't know why you find this funny. It's a reasonable expectation to launch the game, set all the options you need, and only then start the actual game, see the introduction and all that.

The best games launch in a small window and don't let you even access the options menu for 10 minutes because they just go straight into the game itself and you have to complete the tutorial before it unlocks all the keys.

That's actually handled when they ask chief to look at lights. Whatever you do moves the camera up. You can bind look up to the A button if you really want.

You somehow finish the tutorial where you weren't able to read anything, change the graphics, then have to figure out how to delete the autosave file from the cloud so you can replay it.

Oh no, I don't mean that kind of launcher. I mean the old-school style bespoke launcher that would come up when you popped the game CD into your computer. We need to bring those back, even if it's just like a first-time setup.

I know what you meant but those died. Honestly that's fine too, games are now robust enough inside that changing anti aliasing no longer requires a restart and they also no longer have to support three different renderers. Wait.....

I mean as someone who routinely plays old games from like 20 years ago on an ultra wide monitor I am constantly immersed in the "glory days" of ini and cfg edits if not outright hex editing sometimes. I don't really miss it like I thought I might.

Remembering how i had to use command prompt lines to get FF7 Remake to run in DirectX11 instead of 12 and then also download a 3rd party DLL injected Vulkan renderer wrapper for DirectX11 so i can finally play it stutter free

I just started a new playthrough of the original Deus Ex. The game is appallingly dark on modern systems and the brightness adjuster does nothing except in maybe, maybe one rendering mode which isn't listed by default.

I can't use Kentie's launcher as I am using a mod that is not compatible with it. I used the Glide renderer and changed the resolution in the .ini file and it is playable.
