Also everybody understands Ukraine invading/”invading” Crimea is do or die for them now. They are running out of ammo that the west is openly saying it cannot resupply. They have no long term prospect, they need to do something to keep western support regardless. Ukraine must make some sort of move, I guess this summer, or the cheques stop and the nation collapses. It would be irresponsible in the extreme for Russia to not fortify Crimea in anticipation of one last throw of the dice.

Frosted Flake posted:Also everybody understands Ukraine invading/”invading” Crimea is do or die for them now. I don't think anyone of note actually expects Ukraine to invade Crimea, and certainly not this year even if somehow the tides of the war turned almost by magic overwhelmingly in Ukraine's favor. Yes, Russia preps for it and deters it, cause what else would they do? But there won't be any offensive on Crimea beyond maybe irregular warfare or air and missile attacks. Ukraine has a lot of options still on the table without trying to retake Crimea by land or sea (with what navy?). Maybe with this very post I have kicked off a counter-attack into Crimea.

So Russia's Wagner group is claiming they've basically got Bhakmut. Exactly what does this mean for the ongoing battles in the western reaches of the city, and does anyone have a map of the area that will now be difficult to hold now that Ukraine doesn't control that base of operations? Seems to me if that can be drawn a basic idea of the next breakpoint can be found.

So it sounds like this is more procedural control than practical control. Still is there a map that speculates what comes up for grabs if they finish?

thechosenone posted:So it sounds like this is more procedural control than practical control. Still is there a map that speculates what comes up for grabs if they finish? I think it's not really procedural control to take over a city hall that's blown to poo poo and almost everyone who lives there is left, so the remaining city residents are in large part made up of the enemy army, west of you. It's block by block city fighting. Wagner was trying to encircle the city and cut off supply lines, but that didn't work (at least so far). Ukrainian forces still have a couple roads open to them west of the city to allow movement of supply and forces. Wagner is now trying to push in on the city without cutting the supply lines. Sheer fires and numbers may allow them to do that over some amount of time, but it's pretty painful compared to if they had been able to cut supply lines. Wagner called it too early previously, claiming they surrounded Bakhmut a month ago, but they were either lying or were just wrong about the state of the battle.

Interesting. Well I suppose it's a bit premature then isn't it? I'll need to look away for a couple weeks before I can expect much. Honestly I'm starting to wonder if other places NATO is sticking it's dick in are experiencing effects from the movement of arms?

A shoulder-mounted crossbow bazooka is a stand-in for an RPG-wielding insurgent, and the crusaders have to use a flaming arrow to call down trebuchet fire like it was a danger-close artillery strike. gradenko_2000 posted:spoilers for a five year old movie, if you care about that kind of thing
