i mean international mediation is a well precedented thing. im sure china just ferried its diplomats back and forth, trying to get both sides to compromise enough to make this happen. there certainly is an appetite for peace given that the ceasefire has held well past the date it expired, even after those talks broke down. of course china was able to accomplish this because they are perceived as a neutral and honest broker in the region, while the US is correctly perceived as neither of those things.

think it has more to do with saudi arabia reaching the end of it's ropes in yemen and iran having problems with sanctions. The PRC just locked them up in the drunk tank until they got sober and had a heart to heart.
