They were very late leaving this fall, we had 6 "homesteaders" at our winter feeders instead of the usual 3. A couple of extra males have made an appearance but no "last call" mobbing at the feeders just before dark. I'm hoping this bird flu thing is a mild and endemic nothingburger and the birds will be flocking to my feeders again. Maybe if I put up an "Eatin' Good in the Neighbourhood" sign? On the bright side it sounds like the local pair of Barred Owls are using an old nesting site at the top of the valley. Hopefully we'll see some owlets again this summer.  Two birds on the right are dismembering a squirrel the parent brought them. One of the indigenous red squirrels unfortunately, not one of the alien invasive European squirrels displacing them.
