It does take a certain amount of intelligence to trick people into thinking you're an Iron Man super genius. But Musk has done and said a lot of stupid things that should give you pause before thinking of him as generally smart. At the very least he's incredibly foolish.

I like to think of Musk as a kind of idiot savant, where he is extremely good at one thing, growing the share price of a business. However the idiot half is still smarter than most, we just get to see every stupid thing he is thinking for a minute. Imagine if Joe Blogs had their brain connected to a twitter account and everything they thought was posted to it. Given that's effectively Elon's condition, I think he is remarkably ereditude.
