Guide all living beings to prosperity, or nip a spark in the bud. Accumulate strength through choices and strategies, break through the shackles of time and space towards the center of the universe, and grasp the rise and fall of all civilizations.

Combination visual novel/strategy game, though mostly leaning towards the former. What's released is only the framework/first chapter of a proposed series, the rest to be released as DLC.

I really love the concept of this one, enough to overlook its flaws, but I can see how this remains off most people's radars.

Oh man Lone Fungus has been an absolute blast to play so far (I'm somewhere around 50 or 60% completion I think?), but it's once again one of those hardcore vanias that require an insane level of precision and about a million fingers on both hands for the bosses and collectathon challenges in the latter half of the game.

I'm already getting close to the point where I'll inevitably have to give up because my rhythm and reflexes are not nearly good enough for this sort of ultra-precise choreographed rhythmic ballet these games always turn into.
There's an assisted mode you can select at the start, but you can't change mode on the fly, and I've gotten way too far to start a new game now, so I'll probably just stop playing and be frustrated, as is par for the course with all these games. Oh well, it's a me problem I know. Would still absolutely recommend it!

Wow, that's really disappointing. I'm still going to play it after I finish the games I'm playing right now, but hard precision platforming just isn't what I want out of a Metroidvania.

All of the hand contortionist stuff is purely optional for useless collectibles and achievements, none of it will gate progress or even minor upgrades. Anything that does yield progress is more like a light puzzle as to how the mechanics interact and thus training for the horrors to come. It is however almost impossible to know which challenges are what kind when you initially find them because of the dumb map system that only fills out rooms and highlights pickups when you save at a shrine.

There were a couple bosses that I felt were unfun because they have too much health, cheap attacks, too many attacks to dodge reliably, or just move about the arena way too freely. Very few of them featured any of the movement tech which was pretty disappointing. And despite there being 60 possible relics to equip they don't really change combat dramatically and just like Hollow Knight are prohibitively expensive to use more than 1 or 2 of the best at a time.

I did go back to get 100% and it honestly wasn't rewarding enough. The handful of challenges I had left I already knew what to do so it was a matter of dying a hundred times to get it right. The items I could have tracked down on my own since there's an item given before the final boss that alerts you to secrets when you get close but it was easier to use a map someone else made rather than run around every room again humping walls.

If you do choose to hunt stuff down then it is imperative that you mess around with the spell combos when traversing rooms. The game does a very poor job of explaining this in a single line of text and undersells their utility by relegating them all to optional challenges. Doesn't help that the button to change spells is L3 and I prefer to play with dpad so I mostly ignored them.

Hi Fresh Releases thread! I can't see anything against self-promotion, so hey I started a video game studio and after working on our first title for 4+ years finally released it two weeks ago!

Innchanted is a co-op game about running a magical, fantasy inn - set in Fantasy Australia. You and up to 3 friends co-ordinate serving magical potions, drinking them yourselves for powerful effects, cooking meals, fighting or feeding hangry monsters that come in, and taking care of the Inn in the evenings. All to stop the evil Wizard - your Landlord!

If you like Overcooked but you still want to be friends at the end of playing it, are looking for something to play with your partner, or want to play solo with our intelligent AI companion, we've made this in mind for having a great co-op time.

Check it out!

I also saw in the forums that the developer plans to add the ability to lower/change the difficulty mid-run (but probably not dial it back up?) so that will help people who have already started and regret their choice. But he didn't give an ETA and I'm not sure how much of a priority it is.

In the meantime I managed to make some more progress in Lone Fungus and have been kinda softening my stance on the difficulty -- it might probably be okay as it is...?

I mean there's still a chance I'm never going to be able to finish it, but it feels like it's pretty well-balanced, all things considered. Right now I'm stumped with yet another couple of new barrier types I can't figure out a way to clear, so I have no idea how close I am to finishing the main objective.

I'm not one of those people who think they're entitled to have access to every last iota of content in a game, it's perfectly fine if a game has some optional collectibles that will only ever be accessible to 1000-fingered combo wizards. I'd prefer the game to be a bit less cryptic about how you're supposed to use your various tools and what you need to progress in the main story though.

There's a demo. Kind of a low budget blend of Bulletstorm, Crank (the movie) and Cluster Truck, and if it supported controller properly, I'd probably enjoy it more. Something about having to use E (grapple) and F (kick) and ctrl (slow time) and shift (dash) for similar, but different quick paced mechanics is too confusing for my old reflexes to manage. There is controller support, but I couldn't get it to recognize my XBOX controller for anything other than the B button cancelling, and on my last attempt it didn't recognize my mouse either, and I had to alt+f4 to exit.

Any suggestions for some online multiplayer games with low requirements? My mates and I are scattered across several continents and gaming consoles (or lack thereof), although everyone's at least got a "whatever" laptop with Steam.

Jackbox and Among Us are two staples (also work well for >4 people). We've done a bit of Terraria but about half the people are lukewarm on it. Minecraft would probably be similar.

Have beaten Broforce, which was great.

Was thinking a Worms game (the turn-based nature probably makes it good for hanging out and chatting) although none currently on sale. Definitely open for other suggestions! It's a bonus if it can handle more than 4 players, but not a requirement.

Yeah, in some ways it's a fairly barebones game, but playing through different types of player-made bases has been really fun, even though there's a relatively limited range of blocks/traps. There's a ton of different approaches people use for building their bases - some play like combat/movement puzzles, others are trap mazes, and some feel like straight up quake levels.

I whiled away a lazy afternoon playing the demo a few weeks ago after coming across it on a Youtubers channel. The resource gathering is a bit reminiscent of Raft, where you throw out a line to hook passing stuff as it drifts by (although in this game you're stationary).

I saw it described somewhere as "cozy survival/crafting/town building" which is accurate - I think some enemies are being added in but at least in the demo there's not really a lose state, you just might be at a point where you need to build or optimise some stuff to keep people's happy up or get someone new to join your village, but it's no stress. Normally I might find that kinda game a bit pointless but I did enjoy it and am planning on picking up the EA version when I get back from some errands this afternoon.

The aspect of raising your daughter allows you to build a connection with the MC. The art is great, the characters are interesting its hard for me to pick a favorite. Even though one game play takes a lot of time to complete, I can see myself coming back to reach different endings and do things differently. Props to Egg Hatching! Well Done! I will be enjoying this game for a while :D

This game is amazing so far after 3 hours of playing.

It's Princess Maker 2 but bigger, better, with more activites, the world feels massive and it seems you have a degree of freedom that all "rise simulators" should aim for.

I remember when I played PM2 that you were kind of "forced" into warrior builds in order to go to the dungeon and it made seeking arts, literature paths boring and empty. This my friends is completely fixed in Volcano Princess.

Seems you can even romance girls and you are not locked into marrying your daugther to male (haven't reached the end game yet of course but the option seems to be there and the girls don't shy away of being "flirtious" with your daugther)

Also, the game has a loit of mini games, you are into dice gambling you have it, you are more into rhetorical debates you got it too, "mini" farming sim... it's there, cooking game... you got it, random "loot" grind... yup you guessed it it's there too.

9/10 If you ever played Princess Maker series or Romanesque Witch or any other "rising sim" it's a MUST BUY.

This game has a pretty rough English translation, but it's very fun in that Princess Maker way. I played it for 5 hours last night, only stopping at 4 am after going "just one more week..." a few times

Unfortunately they released a hotfix this morning that freezes your game whenever you answer your mail, so that sucks
