Anyone try the Mega Man Battle Network ports that released today yet? I am thinking of picking them up for playing on the Deck.

A friend says it feels off visually, like the sprites aren't correctly scaled to an integer, and hates the new font, but otherwise it's Battle Network and plays fine.
Random example grabbed from Steam.

One thing that's nice about playing Basebuilding/Tycoon/City building games is that the devs are almost exclusively indie. You aren't supporting some publicly traded company that has to satisfy shareholders, you're supporting folks that trying to make a living just like you. I've been way more satisfied with the state of video games since moving away from EA (especially) Ubisoft (except for Anno) and the other big cats making AAA games. You also don't have to spend so much money on a computer either; many basebuilders run on low spec computers.

I know most of you probably want that splash and ash of the AAA games but really give a lesser genre a try sometime, you might like those games :)

I'm going to drown! For no reason at all!

Some reviews came out for Minecraft Legends overnight and are in the “it’s fine” territory. SkillUp recommended it though so I watched his video and finally understand what the game is and think it looks like it could be a lot of fun. So if you were at all interested that’s what I’d recommend looking at, because the written reviews I read were pretty bad.

It should be on gamepass right? I’ll give it a shot.

Yeah I just finished reading the Kotaku review for it which boiled down to "I'm confused, it's confusing, the game needs better tutorials". Which might be true but they really hit home the "it's confusing and the game needs better tutorials" thing throughout the entire review. It's gamepass so I'll prob check it out at least.

It's a good genre. I just reinstalled Megaquarium and the solo dev announced today that he's working on some new stuff for it. Kinda heartwarming to see that a 10 dollar indie game is doing well enough that it can get 2 dlc and the dev can keep working on it 5 years after release.

I finished Everspace 2. It's a good game overall but the devs really turned a 10 hour game into a 30-40 hour one. Also the hide & seek gimmicks for the maps to explore never really change much, so if thats something you hate doing it's not the game for you.

Minecraft Dungeons has been low key one of my favorite games of recent years. It's been the go-to game to play with my kids for a while, but there's enough there that I've enjoyed it rather than it just being.. well, one of those "at least the kids are enjoying it" things.

That game never really got its dues elsewhere either so I'm keeping tabs on Legends and rooting for it to end up offering a decent time.

EA apparently did a press thing for their next original, which is Dude’s Name Game Title, American McGee style and the first article I read spent the entire time complaining about that so I had no idea what the game was.

Nice. Megaquarium is one of the top tier indie builder sims. Really appreciate that developers care and acknowledgement of it. He (I think?) worked a lot on making the game run properly with huge aquariums where even good game indie devs usually just cease development and leave their product in a bad technical state.

Yeah, sadly that bullshit drop down list is not enough for the German state :(. Lots of Adult (mostly porn) but also some of the more violent games are not visible at all to German users because valve doesn't comply with the age verification required by German law. There would have to be a check against an official document like the German passport but valve has decided it doesn't want to deal with that poo poo which I kind of understand.

My understanding of how it is with Steam or other digital stores like GoG is that unavailability is either a) for legacy games that had to went through age verification process prior (f.e. Quake or Unreal series) or b) free decision of the publisher/dev. There are hundreds or thousands of easily 18+ games on Steam which simply do not have an USK rating but are available.

Steam was specifically threatened to be sued over the availability of pornographic content without a proper age check.

yeah but thats exactly what I said. Most of those games had a physical release which was rejected by USK and therefore not available, others may chose not to publish it. Not really sure about the law details here, but the Landesmedienanstalten pursuit and apparent responsibility for pornographic content seems to be different to USK rejects for violence.

You still have USK18 rated games freely available on Steam for everyone who absolutely isnt. See Dead Space f.e.

Does the story require a lot of side questing, and padded content before you can move onto the next main quest?

It's very much Far Cry/AC in space*. I like those game so its fine for me, but if you wanna keep on level with the bad guys you're going to need to do a good amount of going to question marks.

*in terms of how questing, gearing, and progression is laid out, the gameplay is obviously quite different and very engaging.

I have variously heard it described as Diablo in space or Borderlands in space and I don't think it's quite that gear reliant but there are white guns, there are green guns, blue ones, purple ones and yes, even yellow/gold ones, as legend has it

You can get about 5k gold about an hour after that

Then it asks for 100k for the next big boy ship after that one, and so on and so forth. Don't bother putting money in the perks they're largely not worth it

Played a bunch of E:D in VR and it was very cool but I quit before the third-person-shooter update because that didn't appeal to me. Apparently it didn't appeal to very many people because I hear it's kind of limping along while hemorrhaging players. X4 I tried out a coupla years ago but it seemed way more complicated than I was after.

I still don't know why people even compare Everspace 2 to freelancer, they are nothing alike. The controls are even more arcadey and there's no real free exploration. Every area is a box with tons of hidden stuff in it you have to look for, the major areas are unlocked tied to story progress. There's no real exploration other than scouring the levels for hide & seek lootboxes.

The fighting is more Descent than any real dogfighting space game. There's no real economics or anything, just selling loot you find and dont use. It's very pretty, shallow/arcade game.

lol yeah oops. Rogue Galaxy was a jprg right?

I will say I didn't love RGO, it was just a little on the too grindy side and while the auto-acquire certainly changes the gameplay of chase-and-circle that many space fighter games devolve into, it also felt a bit cheaty. The original Rebel Galaxy, which was nothing like Freelancer, was more interesting to me. It envisioned space battles like ships of the line during the age of sail.

there is none.

again, that is a major reason why start shitizen is seeing that much of money still. NO SPACE GAME represents the linear space operas of Freespace, Freelancer, Starlancer etc. back then. Its either/or. Roguelikes, Arcade, Diablo in Space etc. just not that kind of SP space opera with that kind of production value. And all attempts in that particular direction like corvs are flawed AA games with SOME good content but still void of the experience of a modern day Freelancer/Freespace
