I saw a video years ago about how different languages do onomatopoeias for animals and it is still scarred into my brain that the French think a Duck quacking sounds like "coin coin." It is the weirdest interpretation of "Quack" i have ever heard and I have no idea how they ended up there.

From the weird way that the French use the alphabet, wouldn't that literally be pronounced by the french as "quack qua"? Like how croissant is said in French as queso.

With a French pronunciation it sound pretty close to what ducks actually sound like to me. Unrelated, and shamelessly stolen from the Ukraine thread: A map in the office of Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, with a tongue in cheek rendering of how Russia should be divided post-war. Everything pretty self explanatory, but does anyone know what the ФРП over Kaliningrad or the ЦАР over central Russia are supposed to stand for for?

That’s also pretty much how a duck sounds? I mean as closely as anything else. It’s not like they make a "quack" noise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I24bSviEEI0 Is a video of someone saying "coin" in French. This is what a duck sounds like for anyone who flunked out of their daycare class when they were three years old: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyd3qrSabw4 Also I feel like English can’t talk poo poo when a dog goes "bow wow", which is not even remotely close to a sound a dog ever makes.
