It's a shockingly undervalued movie - probably one of the most tone perfect comic book movies ever made. It was ran over by both The Raid and Dark Knight Rises coming out in close proximity to it - giving action and gritty comic book fans a more "pure" offering for both it's strengths.

I must be misremembering then. Maybe it was only in some territories, or it was only 3d for the first week or two or something. There was some way in which they made it harder to see the movie. That part I do remember.

I missed it in theaters, then when I saw it on TV I was astonished at how perfectly is was crafted for 3D. Totally bummed I didn’t see it in the format it was obviously made for.

The movie I did catch in surprisingly well-done 3D was My Bloody Valentine. Been a while, but iirc like Dredd it featured contained environments with nice parallax. I also saw Cave of Forgotten dreams, which might have been great, but the presentation at the theater was so abysmal that I’m still kind of annoyed.

Best 3D I’ve ever seen was at a demo in some show at the time, it was a basketball game shot parallel in HFR with an almost square aspect ratio, large screen, and quite bright. I thought at the time how much I wanted it to be a stealth sequel to Sudden Death kicking off with a mook falling off the scoreboard.

Dredd 3D also had the extra fun of the drug scenes messed with the 3D in a way you couldn't reproduce in the 2D version.

It was fun seeing him having fun but I have to admit I was one of the comic book nerds not quite happy with how his character's Iconic Scene was handled. His introduction was fantastic, then he was only there to have Cate Blanchett throw exposition at him, then he got to do the thing with the guns. Not quite last stand material.

Yeah, the movie version of Skurge's last stand was a wet fart. And because they teased it in the trailer I was even looking forward to it! Meh.

Ragnarok frustrated me since it's two movies, and only one of them is good.

The stuff on gladiator planet is great and plays to Waititi's strengths, full of odd characters and some genuine character moments. It was the first time I felt Thor and Loki's relationship actually moved forward and the film let them do that. Everything in Asgard (which is the titular plot stuff) was boring as batshit, and was just exposition and uninteresting fight scenes. It was completely disconnected from Thor's plot, too.

It's a little funny since that's exactly how I felt about the first one too. The stuff in the small town was great and played to everyone's strengths. The stuff back on Asgard was poo poo. The two odd numbered Thor films are a good film sharing time with an uninteresting one, while the even numbered ones are simply bad. Weird how consistently that worked out.

In a way, the second Thor is even more frustrating than the fourth because it had fewer things going against it. Love and Thunder had to follow up Endgame and basically reinvent the character after he took so many wild turns from Ragnarok to Infinity War to Endgame. Expectations were high after Ragnarok and Waititi seemingly got to indulge in the sillier stuff while the movie also seemed highly meddled with. The pressure was on Thor as the last remaining main Avenger that late in the franchise. They apparently felt they had to cram SO much into that movie and got so little out of it, it's insane. Kind of understandable how that movie turned out to be a turd.

Meanwhile, people were hype for Th2r, but not that hype. Avengers happened but didn't leave the character out to dry like Endgame did. There were a million ways for the character to go, they just chose a supremely boring one. Thor's rogues gallery isn't the greatest, but if they had played up the magical elements some more, the Dark Elves could have worked so much better.

I think you might have a point there. I can't remember anything really bad in Thor 2, but I also can't remember anything really good. The reveal of Loki's room is a really good moment that Hiddleston really sells, but that's kind of it. I remember thinking the finale action scene was creative but not really good. The dark elf attack on Asgard made me wish we'd get a 40k movie. The only other thing I remember is thinking that Kat Dennings' intern looked quite a lot like porn star Danny D and wondering if it was him before realising how absurd that would be.

There was the feeling of disappointment permeating any moment Christopher Eccleston and/or Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje were on screen. Those two were monumentally wasted, and their characters deserved better too.

Absolutely, Donnie is incredibly cool in this. Always love his stuff, Raging Fire, the classics like Tiger Cage 2 and Iron Monkey, he is just such a unique performer. So much charisma and style, and a little different than expected, great to see.

Also Marc Dacascos is pretty much just like his character in John Wick 3

Dacascos genuinely seems like an absolutely lovely dude who absolutely deserves a better career. He just had the rotten luck to come along as the bubble was bursting for martial arts films, so he was stuck in "Kickboxer 5" rather than getting his own semi-lucrative unending martial arts franchise. Did you even know there was a kickboxer 5? It was a real treat to actually see him on the big screen in 2019.

It's pretty sad that before JW3 he'd probably be best known for Iron Chef than any of his martial arts stuff. He's great.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE DEAD, MOTHERFUCKER?

Regal's mystery movie was Sisu and i have to say that was a very pleasant surprise! By far the best mystery movie theyve ever shown. As for the movie itself:

It works better as a gory dark comedy than as an action flick, as there is not really a lot in the way of true action scenes. The hand to hand stuff is way too shakey and most of the shooting is standing in a line firing squad style. Theres a nice little fight at the beginning but everything else is more like just scenes of gory kills and jokes about how unkillable the main character is. I expected a little bit more from it as being advertised in association with the Wick crew but still enjoyed it thoroughly.

I loved Brotherhood of the Wolf when it came out in 2001 so until Iron Chef that's what I knew Dacascos from.

He also did a season of playing Eric Draven in a Crow series, which I'm pretty sure I did watch back in 1998.

I don't think I'd ever heard before that Keanu had a neck fusion done like right before training for The Matrix kicked off, and then after that his neck flexibility has always been a bit limited.

And it's a full-on Art of Action episode btw, not that it would surprise anyone but Keanu does the complete run through of his action career and it's not truncated or shallow in any way compared to the other people who've been on the show.
