Curious to hear how the Wish is. I have never been on a cruise and would not consider myself a "beach" person. We like taking our kids to Disney World though - and it seems like a fun/safe way to try it as opposed to the ships with casinos and alcohol packages. We're debating doing a trip on it next year as a change of pace.

I've never been to Universal, but most the hype around IoA was around stuff like this and Dueling Dragons and other ancient legend stuff.

People give Disney poo poo about what they're doing to Epcot but the loss of identity at IoA seems to be kind of swept under the rug of "who cares, third gate coming."

Dueling Dragons I'll give you, I really, REALLY liked those coasters. But Poseidon's Fury was... it was like a walking show. There wasn't a ride, it was just a series of cool scenes with neat effects and a tour guide. I would consider it a very, very 90s style attraction. That's not to say I think it was bad or anything, but anyone who says it was one of their favorite things there is probably banking heavily on the nostalgia of it being there from the beginning. It was neat, and it was unique IP, which was great, but in terms of actual experience, there wasn't much to it.

That said, if they replace it with another Transformers/Fast and Furious/Spiderman/Minions/Kong/Jimmy Fallon/Simpsons/Hogwarts/Gringotts style "screen based ride experience" I would much rather have Poseidon's Fury. Poseidon's fury was stuff you watch, but at least that stuff actually existed in the room with you. Also, listing all of those was pretty sad. Every time I was like "ok I think that's all of them" I thought of another one.

To be fair, there are two distinct types of screen ride there.

It was fun. There’s a lot of LOVE or HATE from folks who have sailed the previous four ships - and I will give some general critiques, but it was a great ship experience, and very enjoyable for me / non Disney caring husband / 9 year old son.

I would like a longer sailing (I did the 4 night) as I’d only done 7 night before, but there’s a ton of stuff for all to do, even if you don’t leave the ship at all.

It could be worse.

Not sure how, but it could be.
Managed to land a spot in the 10K race during the 2024 Marathon Weekend at WDW in January.

Me and 12,000 other people, apparently, which accounts for the "PlayStation 5 launch day" feeling while trying to register. Complete with refreshing browsers across multiple devices, an hour-plus wait in a virtual queue, and a real go-go-go feeling of entering in all the info and payment they need before the races sell out.

Looking forward to enjoying the views as well as all the characters and entertainment Disney puts along the course.

Dueling Dragons was (barely) rethemed and it fit into the Hogwarts area really well. As great as Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Longname is was there really any need to remove the coaster? The Hogwarts Express is one of the more disappointing things I was on in Universal. As much as the idea of there being a ride that takes you from park A to park B is cool, the queue is so drat long and the "ride" so pointless that it's better to just walk. I'm kind of amazed they didn't just make a huge omnimover TBH.

Dueling Dragons had reached the end of its operational lifespan. It’s really not more complicated than that, and it’s the same reason Hulk got replaced.

Seasonal parks can easily get thirty or forty years out of a ride, but when you run the thing year round it wears out quicker.

e: also, Pokémon is a possibility for the LC remodel. They now have room for at least one major attraction, if not two, plus a Pokecenter and they can upsell Pokeballs so you can play whatever interactive game they come up with. It doesn’t fit in SNW, but they do have the theme park right to it, at least in NA.

It also fits the area because it’s right between Harry Potter and Seuss.

Still not entirely sure I buy this one. Not from you, but unofficial "official" statements about this that have been floating around. Lots of steel coasters are approaching 50 years old now. Kumba at BGT is from 1991. Even when accounting for the fact that Busch sends less cycles a day than Universal, it should be fully replaced by now if the "service life" rule were true.

I can see an exception for Hulk, because it constantly sends a train every minute and it really rips through that track. Dragons, on the other hand, had a much lower daily cycle count.

I believe Hulk was fully replaced because more sections than typical were worn out, and they wanted quieter track to reduce noise levels. They were getting noise complaints from guests at the hotels and also the nearby neighborhoods. New Hulk track is significantly quieter than the old Hulk, which allows them to be able to cycle it through the night (for maintenance and testing purposes and such).

Dragons, I believe, was replaced due to being neutered by no longer dueling. It was also a very ugly coaster that clashed with the Hogsmeade theming. When you were on the ride, you got ample views of ugly backstage service areas. Hagrid's is much more fitting, immersive, and beautiful to look at.

Congrats! I was looking out of curiosity and is there no pacing requirement for the full marathon? That seems...insane? I know there's one for the 10k and the half marathon, but why is there not even a bare minimum like.....20 minute per mile pace on the full? Is there a max run time for the race? I definitely wouldn't mind running one of these one day because 1) it's very flat 2) those medals rule and I'm a sucker for trinkets 3) I run halfs for fun at about a 7-8 minute pace and this is probably the only way I'd ever run a full.

Yeah, all RunDisney races are 16 minute miles and they have been cracking down hard on sweeping. Previously as long as you were off the roads you were relatively safe!

Also congrats! I’m 2/3 done with my challenge, finished the 5K yesterday and 10k today just have to somehow survive the 10 miler tomorrow.

Here’s the routes for this week’s races.

The first two got the road portion out of the way early, not looking forward to the five miles between studios and getting back to Epcot though.

You've just reminded me of the time some new people moved in around the corner from my parent's house and immediately started giving my friends poo poo for being teenagers in public and sitting on a wall. They got told to gently caress off and then called the cops, who showed up and told us to go home. So we swung our legs onto the other side of the wall and my friend who's garden it was asks "okay, now what?".

Question about how to manage accounts for a family trip at Disney World-

Currently I’m the only one with a My Disney Experience account/app. I’ll be doing the bulk of lightning lane stuff during our trip. Everyone is all set and listed on our reservations in MDE.

However it will be helpful to have my partner be able to mobile order, navigate, and do 7am stuff. Does he need to make an MDE account or can we just use my account on two devices? He doesn’t have an account.

Trying to avoid too many cooks but also not have to be the sole point of contact in case we split the party.

That's so awesome. I need to find a map for the route for the full marathon cause I can only imagine how huge it is if the 10m takes you through two parks. I imagine it has to take you through MK to make the distance work. AK seems too far.

When I did it in 16(?) It started and ended at Epcot but went through MK, then AK through back roads, then HS but not Blizzard. Ending with a lap around the world showcase was the best and worst, crowds were hype but they were giving you beer and food and finishing a marathon on that concrete is brutal.

Epcot's ugly enough with all the construction walls, having a bunch of shuttered booths for 1/4 of the quarter would suck.
