also furries arent just a sex thing right? my vague understanding is that for a lot (some? many? most?) of them its just like they enjoy drawing and/or dressing up as anthropomorphic animals but no more sexually than, like, someone doing fanart of and cosplaying as captain america or whatever.

I went back and looked at the threads about the furry article and while there was absolutely some GBS rear end posts there primarily it seemed to be criticism from LGBT and even some self admitted furry posters that found it uncomfortable for 'furry' as an identifier to be treated as a protected class. Or some eyerolling posts about how being a furry inherently means you're woke and anti fascist which is just goofy. You can be woke and a furry but being furry does not mean you are woke lol.
