New Plasma feels great. You basically take no damage from venting now if you're at high toughness. You can clear hordes with it now that that bolt won't get "stuck" on appendages. Being able to headshot bulwarks through their shield is :hellyeah:

It's done the same to the Thrust blessing, but the buff icon still shows up when using it so I'm assuming it's just the description that's messed up.

Tried out my Plasma Gun again after the buff and oh. my. god. yes. :allears:

It works beautifully. Tbh just take Counterfire and mow through shooters with uncharged shots, maybe a cheeky charged shot if they're behind cover. Charged shot for gunners unless you're using Volley Fire, headshot uncharged works in Volley. Lets you delete maniacs and kill crushers, bulwarks and reapers far faster than MK12. Amazing for just ignoring hordes that are screening for actual threats, charged shot lets you reach out and touch things behind hordes. All that and you barely use any toughness to vent heat, Gets Hot! is now a very good blessing.

Anecdotally it felt legit to just uncharged shot the Vortex Shield of an assassination target, it did huge chunks esp in Volley Fire. Probably not worth it still but makes a great weapon to delete specialists that can spawn in the train arena through hordes.

The downside is that you still can't be as reactive as a Bolter Vet for getting rushed at or swarmed by a large group of big things and if you end up running out of ammo in your mag you lose Volley Fire no matter what. Same for Bolter I guess but you wouldn't take Counterfire with a bolter anyway. Also you can explode yourself I guess, but hey you can try for that psyker penance!

Get on the Plasma train folks, it's a blast. :swanlake:

I have not figured out how not to have my heat up when 4 crushers appear.

Also muscle memory means I just press F and unload into them. I’ve died twice to my gun exploding.

Played with mods last night, the For the Emperor button mod is fantastic. Also Player Outlines, cosmetic previews, and sorting the mission list by difficulty level. All stuff that should be in the game (and in the case of player outlines, was, briefly, before they removed it because it didn't work right?) but it's nice to see modders out there doing the needful.

Don't charge and you'll never die. If you just spam left mouse button you'll only vent some heat at 100% but not explode.

I did not know that. That makes it a bit simpler. I guess that could be why I feel like I have so much downtime with this weapon, I’m making up reasons to not fire.

As long as you don't charge shot you will always autovent down to 80% if you're at 100%. I've def exploded myself at least once though so it's easy to get caught in the moment lol

Also I've rebound my ult button to Q on my kb because I genuinely struggled to go back to Apex afterwards lol.

Brittleness on hit is nice, power on hit is nice, you can really slam whatever on it as long as the Brutal momentum's there

Mutants are so toothless after the patch, before I had most of my high intensity damnation shock trooper runs ended by 3ish mutants showing up during a horde and disabling the team while the horde covered for the mutants and made it hard to dodge, once everyone starts getting flung around it's hard to deal with that much HP, now it seems like mutants just clip through me and the dodge window is extremely generous.

Decimator is another good one. The chained hit resets on block, but the push starts the first chained hit, so it stacks back up quickly and has a 2:1 power gain compared to Headtaker. My vet has decimator since the bad stamina regen means I won't be block/pushing much, psyker has headtaker since I do block/push a lot.

My understanding is that even dodging resets the decimator counter, and if that's the case, head taker is very much better as it's easier to keep up max stacks. You (probably) end up with higher effective damage with head taker than decimator, as decimator gives you bad habits.

If I'm wrong, decimator is much more competitive (but still less good than headtaker).

The Huge Manatee

The Antax is already over 100% pen on flak, so brittleness does literally nothing against anything but carapace.

And yeah, Headtaker is way better than Decimator, it takes 8 consecutive swings without missing, pushing, dodging, or otherwise letting the stacks drop for Decimator to pull ahead.

BeeSeeBee
Oct 25, 2007

So I tested it and we're all a bit wrong.

Pushing doesn't start the first chained hit, but the push attack does (so the next attack will gain the first stack)

Dodging doesn't reset stacks

The stacks build +1 for each attack after the first, so 6 attacks to reach 5 stacks, or 4 attacks to beat 5 stacks of Headtaker (+30% vs +25%)

Seems to fall off about 1.25 seconds after not hitting anything, and immediately on missing, blocking. I ought to record a mission to see how often the buff falls off and when.

Edit: I completely hosed up the maths, enjoy the rewrite:

Ok, first off from a standing start, no stacks. Headtaker starts gaining stacks on the first hit, so the second hit and beyond are buffed. Decimator gains stacks from the second hit onward, so the damage increase starts on the third hit.
Decimator lags behind until the fourth chained hit, and overtakes on five.

Now, the deal breaker, every time your decimator stacks drop while your headtaker stacks would have stayed up, you need seven chained attacks to catch up, and eight or more to overtake.

Realistically, thanks to breakpoint issues your mileage may vary, but by raw numbers decimator is a hard sell.

To add to the complexity of modeling, I was doing some more testing trying to get creature spawner to work (idk, can't get it to), and there's another interaction that works really well with brutal momentum.

Apparently chained "attack" means hit because I was able to get 4 stacks of decimator with just 2 swings without much density. I think the first hit, no matter how many enemies you hit is the start of the chain, and then any following attack is enemies hit = stacks.

https://i.imgur.com/3nhr3wp.mp4

I might keep jumping between the two for testing since it's the unlocked blessing.

Got a nice group for penances last night. Now all I need is:

-Heavyweight Champion
-Pick n Mix
-Just a Flesh Wound

and I’ll have all of the character-specific penances. Of those I think Heavyweight Champion is the most difficult, since I really don’t want to load into haz5 shock gauntlets I know I’ll fail just to try to score it before I die. Maybe haz4 shock? Pick n Mix can be annoying too, I may want to find a group for that. The mid event on Comms-Plex is generally good for that one.

Pick and mix is pretty easy if you do a hi-intensity shock gauntlet. Just make sure you have kinetic barrage and 6 warp charges.

Don't do Shock for heavyweight, that just spawns more specialists. Tbh just running normal Damnation will get if for you, the game is not too shy about spawning groups of crushers now.

You likely need a horde call as you see the first group. A lot of big fights now end up with 10+ ogryns over the course of a fight because they come in from spawn doors or other parts of the level. Still you can just get instalucky. Like I just got out of a mission with the excise vault and at the stairs down right after the first medicae station there was just 2 bulwarks, a reaper, and 5 crushers hanging out.

Of the regular horde enemies which do you all find harder to deal with?

Poxwalkers
Scabs
Dregs

I find Scabs tend to shrug off hits sometimes when hit in the armor depending on the weapon which ends up in trading hits, both the scabs and the dregs have some loooong reach while chasing after you with their maces.

Whichever one has bare torsos but wears helmets is the one I find the most difficult

Armored head limits my ability to quickly clear them with low damage cleaving headshots with weapons like devil's claw sword, meaning I have to cleave through their surprisingly beefy chests. And the nasty running attacks, as you mentioned - a group of three idiots can spike you very hard from surprise

The bruisers are the most annoying, in either dreg or scab form. I find if I'm going to get downed due to some stupid melee nonsense its when I get a bunch of those guys attacking out of sync at an inopportune time cuz they do a lot of damage once they hit your health pool.

In shop news, I am pretty sure one of their patches hosed up the armory as I was not seeing anything highly rated (note this could be RNG bias) but after the last patch I am seeing multiple 370 items per refresh across all my characters and 380s as well.

Fun fact, the votekick option will show a nearly fullscreen, blocking, modal dialog, on each player's screen. Everytime a votekick is initiated. You can literally kill your teammates by trying to kick a troll by taking away their ability to do anything other than try to scramble out of the votekick dialog you shove in their faces.

Oh and there's no cooldown on calling votekicks.
