Sure, people outside of deeply conservative communities have a generally-positive opinion of Disney, but that's why you do this poo poo early, pre-primary season - you hit Disney with a slap on the wrist in order to you get enough support of the far-right portions of your base to win the nomination, it fades from peoples' minds over time, and then you have a general election where you can just play it off as "woke corporate overreach" if anyone even bothers to ask. He didn't view it as a long-term fight, because it wasn't supposed to be. As soon as Disney's lawyers pulled a little legal trick to get out of his initial "punishment", though, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. You can't just ignore it, MAGA voters love nothing more than an angry bully strongman, and backing down would make him look like a pussy and cement their primary votes for Trump. So, he's tripling-down on the anti-Disney stuff, because that's his only option at this point, and what was supposed to be just a stunt to quietly get the Evangelicals to like him as much as they did Trump in 2016 is now actively torpedoing his chances, especially now that Trump himself is making fun of him for it. I mean, I'm looking at this through the lens of it being an actual thought-out political strategy, so who knows, maybe he's just really loving stupid and can't read the room. Perhaps both are true.

So, near as I can tell, "woke" is just the new "politically correct" and really what either of these things mean is just "be polite and try not to be an rear end in a top hat". It's not limiting anyone's freedom to say whatever they want so much as pointing out that, often, what they're saying is rude. A lot of these people get their nuts in a twist if someone says "gently caress" because the bible says that's bad or something but many of the same types are always going on about "telling it like it is and they don't like it". They laud Trump for this. They call everyone snowflakes and are still the most easily offended, touchy feely groups of people I've ever met. Try saying "Jesus Christ" around certain strains of these people and find out quick what they think of free speech. I know gay, trans, black - you name it - people who aren't as quick to take offense but gently caress you, you hate AMerica if you don't stand for the flag or something. Back when I did Facebook, I caught some blowback for DARING to ask why, exactly, we even HAVE the national anthem at sporting events since I didn't see why it was necessary or even appropriate but, no, all these freedom loving yahoos need to say grace before dinner, pledge allegiance to the flag before school and sing a song before aby public assembly. Nothing fascist about any of that. Just don't say gently caress or take the lord's name in vain but why can't I say f and n words?
