I do find the championship logo funny. The lighting for one on the table makes it look like someone fumbled applying or removing a sticker. Big "graphic design is our passion" energy.

Man, Nepo seems a lot more hesitant today. And not just because his shirt is less pink.

I would lose this position within five moves with either side.

For real. Like, people talk poo poo about how Ding and Nepo are playing less accurate chess than Carlsen did - but part of it is also just that they (mostly Ding), intentionally, walk into these super sharp positions.

Having watched this tournament, I've come to the conclusion that Nepo is a cat.

So was playing a complicated position and didn't remember that you can castle long even with a rook threatening b1. My opponent remembered and probably felt so proud that they just made the move out of pride. I was surprised that the move was possible, and then I looked at it and it was terrible. Just a funny line to a pure amateur like me: 23 O-O-O?? #−2 ...

This sort of Ng5-h4 idea exists in the e3 four knights english Ding played earlier. It's objectively unsound but practically fairly successful.

Exercu posted:Everyone: So this is a draw. They were overstating how drawn that position was. After Bd7 it's actually fairly hard for white to find a move that doesn't leave you very passive, so I can understand wanting to go for this position, which gives you more activity even if it's objectively worse. e: think of it less as going on the attack and more as looking for just more flexibility and potential.

Oh, I know. It also makes Nepo's position much more complicated to play, and if Ding wants a win, that's what he needs, Nepo to make a mistake because he's playing in a complicated position.
