this game bucks the card battler trend by being focused on persistent deck design rather than building up from nothing each run, closer to the design of CCGs like yugioh or magic: the gathering. I also like the look of the grid based combat, it looks very Tangledeep despite being in a totally different genre

two reviews so far, both positive.

I picked this up after seeing the post and have ~5 hours in. I'm enjoying it! It reminds me quite a bit of Into the breach as you have full knowledge of what enemies will do on their turn. wizardchess.

This is very much for if you are into the early access janky simulator genre like I am, but I felt it was worth mentioning because the idea of "go around and clean up nature and feed the birds and remove illegal traps so they don't hurt animals" is a nice one at its core. Maybe worth a look if you are into chill stuff like House Flipper or Powerwash Simulator, although I will put in the warning that I've seen some pre-release streams and the game has some rough edges still. $13.49 on 10% release discount.

I generally enjoy this kind of thing, even if janky, but this is beyond janky at this early point. I tried the demo. There isn't even a menu to show you what buttons are involved and what they do, let alone remap them. I was motion-sick almost immediately because the WASD motion stops about 0.75 seconds after you release the key. No way to change mouse sensitivity. The "tutorial" is a joke and there's very little information about basically anything. This is absolutely not ready for even a demo release, I'm frankly impressed at the chutzpah of daring to ask for money for this garbage heap. (Sorting out a garbage heap is the first thing the tutorial asks you to do.)

There is a new game called Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum that somehow nobody knows about but it's kind of incredible.

https://nodayshalleraseyou.itch.io/deadeye-deepfake-simulacrum

It has Caves of Qud style visuals and Hotline Miami controls, but it's an immersive sim. The hacking interface is a text parser which leads to a lot of comedy as you try to type while being shot at. If you don't like the parser you can swap it out for buttons, but that's not as funny.

The writing deploys some internet lingo (ie succ) but it's actually pretty clever and fits the kinda vaporwave thing they have going on. It's really neat.

Which is more than a little strange, honestly. But I'm guessing that ActZero is just a nested organization within Polyslash, a spin off kind of thing. Dude, it's awesome. Honestly surprised I haven't heard more about it. A wonderful narrative adventure with so much character, great art and music, and which doesn't overstay its welcome. The boss fights are pretty fun too.

The only bad things I could say about it is, as mentioned above, it's not long (but it's packed with awesome scenes), and it's not vary challenging. But for what it is, I absolutely loved it. It really succeeds on the basis of its narrative and presentation, which are top notch.

This game is very cool. Excellent art, a MUCH better story than you usually get from these types of games, but at the end of the day this type of game is all about its systems and I can say that they knocked it out of the park in that regard. It reminds me a little of Gwent except it's better in every way and actually fun. A great strategic challenge with a really cool unit and item system. Game should get more love.

The only thing I kind of dislike, there are major difficulty spikes and you need to be on your game and ready to adjust your decks very, very carefully if you want to beat some of the later challenges.

Yeah Banner Saga was awesome and did have really similar line art. This one is a little different, Banner Saga was a tactics-style game but Ash of Gods is more like a card/board game where you put units down/use items and spells in the form of cards, the units move forward automatically (although you can move them to different lanes) and you combat the opponent on the other side of the board. They switch up the board size and add tons of gimmicks to make each fight a different kind of custom challenge.
