Didn't he get into politics because he was friends with Erdogan, then fall out with him and now he's driving an Uber in the US with all of his assets in Turkey frozen or something? Or was that someone else?

edit: no, that's Hakan Sukur.

iirc Hakan Sukur got damnatio memoriae cast upon him, like pundits on Turkish TV aren't even allowed to say his name when discussing football despite him being Turkey's all-time leading goalscorer.

Yeah, I read this article a while ago and forgot about it until I mixed him up with Turan:

His Twitter feed is kind of sad, because it's the most decorated Turkish football player of all time but now sometimes you see him talking about driving an Uber around Northern California to make money. I think he's involved in some other business there, though.

But still, I'd really like to see what happened before to make a ref think that was okay to do.

Going for the nutshot was a bit much, but refs doing something to get the crowd of players away from them is probably a good thing

Ouest-France report this morning that Angers left-back Ilyes Chetti has been handed a four-month suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual assault, having appeared in court today.

Through a procedure by which he would have plead guilty in advance of his appearance in court, Chetti admitted inappropriately touching a woman he did not know, in an incident which took place in a nightclub in the city during the World Cup break back in December of last year.

When reports of the legal proceedings first surfaced last month, then-Angers manager Abdel Bouhazama stunned his players with a team talk that appeared to downplay the events – “It’s nothing nasty. We all touched girls before”. He later resigned from Ligue 1’s bottom-placed outfit, who are winless since September and sit on just 10 points.

Former club president Saïd Chabane, who remains the team’s owner, has legal issues of his own to contend with, having been in police custody from Tuesday to last night over suspicions of money laundering.

A football fan wielding a chainsaw was arrested during riots at a CAF Champions League match in Tunis, a source at the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

The return leg of the quarterfinal between Tunisia's Esperance and Algeria's JS Kabylie at the Rades Stadium on Saturday was interrupted by violence, which caused a 40-minute delay to the second half.

Esperance fans clashed with security forces and lit fireworks on the terraces. Firefighters had to be called out to extinguish several small fires in front of the stands.

Local reports said that a warehouse at the stadium was looted and some equipment, including a chainsaw, was stolen.

"We can confirm the arrest of a fan holding the chainsaw," the ministry source, who requested anonymity, told Reuters.

Yeah it's short for Lebanese. A lot of families migrated to Sydney from Lebanon during the 80s and there's a pretty big community here.

I dunno if I'd call it an outright slur, but unless you're from a Lebanese family, talking about Lebs or Lebbos will definitely raise some eyebrows
