Can't remember the last time a bill got sent back to committee twice lol. Shades of when Debbie "Terror Babies" Riddle had voter ID stripped from her and given to someone else because she was too inept to get it through in the regular.

Who the gently caress is staffing this bill

If this was a House bill it would actually be in a bit of trouble but since it's the Senate one they can do this for like two more weeks I think.

Yeah it's going to take a lot more incompetence on this bill for it to not pass. I've seen a lot of Republican priority bills get POO over the years, and what I don't understand is...if you know Dems have lawyers on it to find POOs and the Freedom Caucus might just take a swing at you too, why wouldn't you do extra vetting on those bills?

In 2019, Stickland killed a $100 million mental health consortium bill on the floor deadline day for senate bills. They found a vehicle to save it on another bill up on second reading (only because a random amendment added that day made it relevant). How do you leave your $100 million priority bill for the last day?

I'd assume they're trying to avoid a hard vote but the entire Republican caucus minus like, Charlie Geren are co-sponsors.

Also it is my sincere belief that these people are morons who think they are doing Machiavellian political moves and poo poo, I have no idea otherwise. Maybe whoever was calendars chair didn't like the way the author said something to him and decided to kill his huge rear end bill, or some other powerful chairman. Either spite or incompetence.

I guess the idea is that from the outside looking in it means the Dems still have both fight in them and victories to win so just imagine with the help of the lanyard class what they could do with proper funding. Given the track record of Dem victories here, the bar is very low to look impressive.

Which one? The one in Allen or the one in Frisco? I got notifications about both today.

Also please please be careful checking twitter, there are uncensored videos of the victims in a pile (including a small child) and it is deeply disturbing and made me want to throw up.

Well, at least the Republicans who keep relaxing gun laws this and every session can smugly tell the families of the victims that they made sure we didn't "California" their Texas.

Is there any kind of saturation point where enough mass shootings happen in enough communities where political pressure will change anything? Beyond this stupid idea that we just need to have at least a 1:1 ratio of guns to people in every single scenario so the "good guys" will have them too?

Probably if and only if some crazy rear end in a top hat tries to murder a whole bunch of Tx congresspeople while in session at the Capitol, even then it's a big if.

I genuinely do think the average person doesn't understand how incredibly lax our gun laws are and the GOP spreads lies about it. That and fatalism is a big part of a lot of Christianity - hence them being way too chill about COVID-19 deaths even when it was their family.

I don't know if either can actually be fixed though - people "feel" gun laws are strict even when presented with facts.

How is it getting less conservative? The entire purple Texas theory was premised, wrongly, on demographic destiny. You have things like Uvalde County, which is 70 percent Hispanic and recently had a relatively electorally salient event occur there you may have heard about, going 60/40 for the GOP in every race.

There are always going to be conservatives, there always have been. Conservatives will control some states in the future. We have to ask ourselves what are the odds that Texas isn't one of those states.

Seems like things are trending in the right direction

The gun lobby has too much influence, nothing of substance will happen until SCOTUS changes its position on gun laws or the second amendment is repealed.
