I never cared enough about Jai Paul to differentiate him from Jai Wolf in my mind so this whole thing has been very disappointing.

I'm a music fan and I used to read Pitchfork here and there but I didn't listen to everything they were hyping up. I get Jai Paul disappearing for a while after somebody leaked his album. That would've been traumatic for me too.

My Bulgarian music theory professor played us the entire leaked version of Extraordinary Machine in early 2005. I have nothing else to add other than that was a memorable way to spend a day in class.

I hope this is one of those situations where she releases an album to finish her deal with Satan and has another ready to go full of all the poo poo they wouldn’t let her do https://twitter.com/keshadiscord/status/1650870459255201794?s=61&t=p3q_Jh3l7EiiLtw3f9k_8Q edit: unrelated but I think Mimi Webb (who released House on Fire last year, a bop) may have put out one of the best pop albums of the year so far. Wow edit: fine line has me shook, it’s an amazing piece of art about the feelings she’s had to deal with the last decade-plus working with her abuser. I think Gag Order could be something special. edit2: a person on Popheads has heard the album, sounds like it might all have this sound quote:so i attended the first LA album listening party today. these singles are very representative of the entire album. it was so amazing, extremely raw and real and terrifying, super synthy, and i loved it so much. there are a decent amount of upbeat songs as well. the whole thing is kinda psychedelic (idk if i’m using that word right, don’t sue me) DC Murderverse fucked around with this message at 16:07 on Apr 28, 2023 |

Yeah, holy poo poo, Fine Line is crazy. I saw on Twitter that this is her last record on Kemosabe so I can't wait for whatever Kesha winds up doing after this. New National has Taylor/Phoebe features https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrCTNeuvmqA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCqoNu36y2o

On the completely opposite end of Kesha making spare synth music about her piece of poo poo abuser/boss, that new Jessie Ware album is amazing. The instrumentation feels straight out of the late 70s and her voice is just so perfectly suited to disco. It’s like she knew that What’s Your Pleasure coming out during the pandemic was a shame and she wants everyone to get out and party to this poo poo

Bad news: Ed Sheeran isn't quitting music. https://pitchfork.com/news/ed-sheeran-wins-thinking-out-loud-copyright-trial/ But overall, it's actually very good news because that lawsuit was stupid and it would've set a chilling precedent. The songs are definitely mashuppable, but that's a far cry from infringement. The melodies aren't even remotely the same. I still think Pharrell & Robin Thicke basically brought the Blurred Lines lawsuit on themselves. It really sucks that it went down the way it did, but they handled it terribly. I had a feeling Sheeran would be okay as long as he didn't actively go out of his way to screw it up. I also wonder if the fact that he had to miss his grandmother's funeral had anything to do with it. Did that push him over the top by making the jury sympathetic? Is this a "City On the Edge of Forever" scenario where if his grandmother doesn't die, the music industry is doomed?
