I remember thinking “drat that was a nice cutscene for a death.” And then I turned off the game. But I just loaded up the game again now, and suddenly I’m playing as Cere? I never got to beat Bode.

Yeah but that’s what I want, her cutscenes are so badass. Also it’s cool to see what a force using rogue can do, as opposed to a traditional Jedi knight.

Slashrat posted:

Heads-up to people that have finished the main story, there is a number of force echoes relating to Bode that appear sprinkled across the different planets after you complete the story, but they never get marked on your map like other collectibles do, so you have to go hunting for them the hard way.

I finished the game and found that out the hard way. I got all the trophies, collected every single thing, but still sitting at 98% because of databank entries and character entries on Koboh. I'll just wait for someone else to find them and list them. There are some pretty cool ones. If you go back to Garron, there's force echoes detailing Cal's rampage through the facility when he tapped into the dark side.

Some other thoughts, all relating to end game spoiler stuff:

Vader fight was my favorite boss. He is slow and lumbering but he hits loving hard. The third phase was great because then he starts speeding up as he just wants to get the fight over with and kill you. I love his "WHAT?!" when you dodge his grab move. In the next game, Cal has to have a proper fight with him, right? Cal's gonna want revenge. Also the next game has to get into his brush with the dark side. While that vision he had in Fallen Order won't exactly come true because toe holocron was destroyed, he could still fall down that dark path. He tapped into it, but hasn't had that 'moment' where he has to choose. Definitely can't wait for the next game.

The only complaint I have is I wish they fleshed out Bode more. I know they wanted us to feel sympathetic since he was doing bad things to protect his daughter, but it still rang a little hollow. I dunno how to fix that. It just needed a little something more.

This is where I'm at. I really like Merrin as a character, but I don't think she would make a good protagonist. In addition to her power set being really hard to balance in a video game, she also doesn't have much of an arc. She is a completely level-headed person with all her poo poo figured out, which tends to make for a boring main character. I guess they could force a conflict on her, but that would also feel kinda lame.

I hate the lightsaber crossguard aesthetic.

Speaking of aesthetics, one of the things I low-key like about Crossguard is the way it looks like your belt when paired with Blaster stance. Like, on Cal's literal belt. With any other stance combo, you end up with superfluous equipment. Like, if you go Single and Blaster, your saber is still the Double-Bladed on your belt. And if you go something like Double and Dual, you still got the unused Blaster hanging there.

Because Crossguard has that little end-cap to extend the grip it's the only one that looks right hanging on your belt. It's a crazy small detail, but one I find satisfying.

Man, I hope not. I already don't want the third game to be about Cal's struggle with the dark side, but that seems inevitable with out this game played out. I really don't want Vader to be the final boss. Star Wars spends way too much time stuck orbiting the same five or six characters. Give us new characters, and do new things!

I don't think so. I've tried taking a couple of different options in NG+ and it only changes the follow-up dialogue.

I think it comes up in other Star Wars media that force sensitive can hide their presence with the right training. And it kinda has to be that way for most stories about them to work. Like, I can't imagine Bode would last very as an imperial agent if any inquisitor he passed by could sniff him out.

I too love this, but it looks really dumb if you pair crossguard with dual or double because Cal will constantly be swapping the switch and emitter off for the pommel he keeps up his sleeve.

Cross and single rocks because he force sucks the battery off his belt and onto the sword when he needs it to go brr.

Boring is maybe too strong a word, but she does lack a character arc which is fine for the supporting cast but less so for a main character. Again, I'm sure they could manufacture an arc to suit her, but I like her current deal of having everything worked out to her satisfaction and would prefer they don't screw that up.

Also, making her the main character risks taking back down Dark Forces' troubled path of too many colons.

Blaster stance actually seems quite good, even with no points invested. I wasn't expecting to like it, but it seems really good at keeping enemies off balance. I would just alternate between using the lightsaber and shooting the blaster and it would lock down guys in situations where I'd normally need to counter/dodge their attacks.

Also, I think my issue with parrying was the thing someone else mentioned where holding down LB for any time at all fucks up the recovery time. Now that I'm just tapping it I seem to be having an easier time.

I dunno if they ever mention it in Fallen Order, but as I recall, Dathomirian men live in a separate society and are regarded more as slaves and beasts of burden by the Nightsisters. So, uhh, Merrin might not have even thought of them as people due to her upbringing.
