I did potato in the hole. YouTube has the whole task segment with scoring, so it’s a winner. Thanks all!

If you want something to represent the creative prompt tasks I would argue that A Song for a Stranger is the peak of creative tasks.

I think Mae is probably going to win, just by the rather dubious merit of being the quietest and most route-one contestant ever. I had hopes for Mae, but their sweetness and charm as an actor is most certainly not translating well to to Taskmaster for me, they are so painfully awkward in the studio sections where Greg is lobbing a bit of banter their way and getting buggerall in return.

Perhaps it's just that this time the tasks are not tailored well enough for the personalities? With the reasoning, don't blame the students for poor performance, blame the teachers.

Though I really like Mae, I am a little frustrated by them doing pretty much the exact thing I would do for most tasks.
And yes the shift the last episodes to trying to give Mae more banter material to work with is very noticeable, but not sure what else they could do.

The ep.6 egg task was much better though.

I wonder if “worse tasks => better banter” is forced by the format a little. Less interesting, less varied approaches to the tasks makes it harder not to group them into fewer/shorter VTs which leaves more time in the edit for back-and-forth in the studio.

No-one did anything too wild when building their Egg Boat, but if they had then maybe we’d lose the Throw v Cast debate. Kinda thing.

I think it’s that none of the contestants are very creative OR good at most of the tasks.

The best parts of the show are
- someone does something perfectly or first try or finds the gimmick
- someone does something really creative outside the box
- someone does something insane because they think it’s creative and fail miserably.

None of them do the above, almost ever. Mae occasionally comes close to doing things well, but they’re so uncharismatic about it and it’s too rare that it doesn’t feel fun.

No one is off the rails. No one really thinks differently. In fact, there seems to be a large number of tasks this season where they all do the exact same thing. I can’t think of a single other season of UK Taskmaster where “most poignant imaginary friend scene” would result in 4/5 being death, with 3/5 being so similar Greg had to score on how well they wailed at the death rather than the scene.

The studio banter is so excellent that it makes the season fun enough to enjoy, but I think it’s the only thing holding it up.

To be fair, I think asking for most 'poignant' is either going to get you A) Death or B) What Ivo did. I figured it was going to go down that road as soon as they said it, but then without it you wouldn't have much of a task. I think that, and Alex getting a bit too clever with the 'no touching the green' stuff harkens back to Season 10 and some of those tasks in which they end up being quite limiting. On the studio front I'm probably wrong but I feel like there's less back and forth with eachother (unlike say, last Season) and more back and forth via Greg or Alex instead. I'm actually enjoying it because it's quite the contrast in personalities, but the tasks themselves have been kinda poo poo. Maybe we should start borrowing a little more from the other countries.

That was Fern in her fetish wear (tied with Mawaan's space suit as my favorite task outfit). It was on her choker, too.

No one this season has a particularly good task outfit. Jenny's with the big necklace gives me Prue from Bake Off vibes.

The series has been fun, but I've shifted from "Who will win" to anticipating Mae's performance/banter vs the rest of them in the Champion of Champions.

I was genuinely taken aback at the end of episode 5 when they announced Jenny was ahead of Mae for the season. It's seemed pretty apparent since the first episode who was the most competent.

Hell I also think this current series intro opening "brace! brace!" is also a great platonic atom of Taskmaster.
